Love the floor, but is it wood with tiles?

Amazing work and concept on the floor, a really bold visual focus for the hallway, but is it wood combined with ceramic or marble tiles?, and if it is, what kind of prevention do you take to ensure the prevention of damage on both materials?

In this hallway, we used mahogany wood with Belgium limestone tiles. The tiles were about 24" square. We had two different material thicknesses to work with since the tile was thicker than the wood planks. The installer added an extra layer of subfloor to the wood layout so the tile and wood floor would lay flush. I had the wood flooring installer put a micro bevel on the edges of the wood planks so we could work around any subtle floor height variations. The limestone tiles are not a consistent thickness.

Keeping the floor heights flush is the best way to insure the tiles won't chip and the wood won't wear unevenly. Work closely with your tile installer and wood flooring installer as this project requires you work with these two vendors.

    Good luck!
