Aren't there problems as time goes on with a window where this one is located?

Absolutely not. The window has a nailing flange on the exterior that attaches to the exterior framing. That flange is then wrapped with a water proofing membrane. That protects the window on the exterior. The interior of the window is also sealed and the wall is wrapped with hardibacker board, a substrate that the tile is adhered to. Then of course you have the tile grout which seals the gaps in the tile. The tile is also caulked around the window. This is pretty basic construction standards so there should never be a problem of any sort with water penetration unless of course something was not done right or it's a very old window in a period home that's just not sealed properly. Hope that helps.
