I want to change my pendant lights

I have a kitchen island that has an attached support beam post. The island is 8'6" x 4 ft. I do not care for the current penant lights. I am looking for lighting for the space with bigger pendant than these perhaps glass to lighten the space. I do love industrial and rustic modern influences as well. My problem is the hanging of the pendants. I have read that maybe they are not placed properly here. To make sure that I do not order the wrong amounts and dimmensions, I need to make sure. I think I can work with the electrician to space them differently and patch and paint to cover these unless you feel they are properly spaced and enough from the ends. The task lighting situations seem to be just fine when they are on. Thanks

Hi Joyce. Let me say that you need to consider if you like to use your budget for beautiful lighting or the electrician. If the electrician moves anything, he will charge you. My opinion is to leave the three in place. Since you have the sink centered, you absolutely need lighting over head. I recommend to keep the three units for balance and proper over head lighting over the sink. I have worked with so many beautiful fixtures recently.

Our general recommendation is for a pendant spaced every 2 feet or so above an island. Because of the support beam, you really have less than that 8'6" island length. I feel like you could get away with just two pendants, perhaps--mainly the one over the sink and then the one near the end of the island that doesn't have the support beam. But you said that you like the task lighting you get when the lights are on, and patching and relocating lights can be such a chore, so you could also keep the trio configuration.
