Hardwood vs. carpet: what do you prefer in the master bedroom?

    I really dislike wall-to-wall carpet anywhere. Area rugs are much more versatile, and can be a design element as well as "just" a floor covering.

      Hardwood with a small area rug on each side of the bed.

      Hardwood looks far better, although carpet is warmer. Would choose (sustainable certified) hardwood with area rugs to add visual interest and warmth.

      Hardwood. For the simple reason that a bedroom will be one of the dustiest rooms in a home. This is the room where you will shed the most skin. Dust IS skin. The room where your bare feet will traffic over the dust/dead skin and grind it in. No matter the quality of carpet, it is subject to more abuse here than anywhere in the home. Hardwood and an area rug, allows for turning the rug, replacing a rug......with ease. It allows a unified base with decorative rugs in any room, and no QUILT of multiple colors installed edge to edge in a home . It's the best in kids rooms! Over time it is the single best added value.
