Design ideas for hallway please
Really struggling to come up with an idea for our hallway. We have an upside down house. Behind where the photo is taken is the main entrance door. Bedrooms are downstairs with living room etc on this floor. Therefore, its the first view you see when coming into the house.
All the doors are being changed to a modern white design (last one still not done yet!). Thought canvas would be OK but doesn't do it any justice at all! Maybe the back wall needs to be a "feature" wall of some kind? Its high, at least 10ft!
To give you an idea of our house (as needs to blend), below is a picture of our lounge.
House interior is mainly white! Need to add colour! What colours work well - or anyone seem anything on houzz they can point us to?

It must have been a nightmare to hang the orchid one, but I'd take that away and do something on that back wall that relates to the water picture.
So... here's an example: I used this but didn't pay attention to the size of it in the mock up. So don't pay attention to the actual size, just see if you would like something like that. You wouldn't have to paint the back wall in a colour, just thought I'd show you how thát looks.

7 år sidenIf work looked too much we would have a. Business.
I know you say you want colour but just adding a subtle matte white will really add depth to the hall. Plus it adds a wow factor that most haven't even seen let alone got in their home. Any questions were here to helpCarolina
7 år sidenA 3D wall could be good. What would you do with the radiator? A more modern one?
Which could also be a statement piece, so you wouldn't have to do anything else to the wall.V.I.P Walls Interior Specialist

When dealing with us you can have bespoke covers that will just blend in and look rite . If you don't like covers you can always do the modern radiator idea.
Where are you guys in the U.K.?Paul Lavender
Forfatter7 år sidenIn Paignton, Devon - see you have a depo in Plymouth. Carolina is right tho - what about the radiator? Would covering it reduce the heat from it too much? I have looked into modern style radiators but apparently the BTU is quite low on them so not much better than a towel heater!

7 år sidenSidst ændret: {last_modified_time}7 år sidenWe'd definitely look at purchasing a more modern radiator instead of covering it in any way. Check out our article on the radiator cover debate - http://www.bestheating.com/info/blog/radiator-covers-the-great-home-heating-debate/ and for all your designer home heating options, check out our store at www.bestheating.com - maybe something like this...

7 år sidenHi Paul. I like the idea of a 3D white wall or have a look at the elitis textured wallpapers on the link. They're expensive but stunning. I'd go for something very pale. I think the hall needs a statement light where the downlighter is. Perhaps an architectural style in a natural material which will tie in with the seascape. Could you also have a narrow console over the radiator? I like the monochrome scheme in the living room, it just needs some texture and pattern, I agree with Carolina would either change the table or rug. Maybe a black or grey and white patterned rug or even a grey cowhide? I'd add a grey sheepskin on the sofa and then add patterned and textured cushions in shades of white and grey. Do you have another piece of art the same size as the hare and both could hang over the sofa? When the Xmas tree is down I'd look at adding a large potted plant and then perhaps add a couple of gold or copper accessories, vase/dish for the table etc

Forfatter7 år sidenHello, thanks for that. Interesting wall paper idea. By architectural light, are you meaning a drop light style? We have 4 down lighters in the hall - 3 would be high enough to have a drop light of some kind. The coffee table will be gone (currently up for sale) but being granite...really heavy and hard to sell due to couriers not wanting to collect it (hardwork for 2 people to move!)

7 år sidenYes a pendant style light just where the end light is in front of said wall. I can never find the exact style of light when I'm looking for them but this kind of thing which I think will work with your art and if you add texture in the living room it will carry the scheme through.

7 år sidenHi Paul - it's a wonderful bright hallway space, I have several original abstract artworks that would work very well in the space! Here are some suggestions below. (Thinking the black painting would actually look great in your lounge).

7 år sidenHi Paul sorry for the late reply found out Tuesday I had pneumonia and have been in hospital ever since I'm out now but resting. Rite ...We have had customers who don't want covers when we do our traditional wall paneling. They said they heard about energy efficiency being lower with a cover. I know one client looked into a new but Victorian style rad and said it had bad efficiency. Maybe worth investigating if it's a concern.

7 år sidenHi Paul,
I wonder if a large mirror in place of the artwork would add light and space. Then by adding a wooden radiator cover below to provide you with a shelf below the mirror almost like a mantle piece. Then you could add colour easily with a lamp/ plant/ flowers/ decorative items, not to mention a space for you wallet and keys to call home!
Hope this is helpful, Rachel
