oak or white shelf?

I want to put a shelf up above the chest of drawers, furniture is oak and walls are white. Would you put up white shelves or wooden? Gut says to match furniture, but white shelves will blend into the background more? What do you think?

    white shelves indeed in my opinion. It reduces the illusion of cluster, thus making your room look much more spaci-er and increase a flow of comfort to your eyes.

      It depends what you are trying to achieve. As you say, they are two different looks.. one bring more understated and blending into the bank ground - matching with window cill.
      What other furniture is in the room? Is their a bed/cot? Is it Oak?

      White works beautifully with wood and would allow you to play with colour and texture more with whatever you style on the shelves.
