While we're rewiring a 4000 sq foot house...
- Speakers? I like the in-ceiling look. Everyone says Sonos is awesome but do they go in-ceiling? Do you need amazing internet connectivity for the wireless to work?
- video cameras? Local PD said the wireless ones can be "blanked out" by savvy thieves
What other wired stuff would you recommend?

6 år sidenIf your budget can handle it, hire structured wiring pros and do a lot of pre-planning with them. If not, you have a ton of homework to do and I hope you have a good electrician.

6 år sidenWith today's wireless capabilities, suggest an internet connection wiring, cable/router modem or cable modem & wireless router; if house is real large, possibly a wireless repeater.

You should consider wiring rooms for speakers in ceiling. You should contact a local audio video pro and talk to them about Sonos or Heos or Autonomics. They are all similar. The speakers will be in the ceiling, the amplifier will be wired to a closet or the basement. You will still control the system wirelessly (via a phone or tablet). Also, wire a cat 6 to one closet location on each floor - this will allow for wifi repeaters (access point with POE). Cameras - wire Cat 6 to each location so you can use IP cameras (far superior quality). Consider running a fiber optic cable to each main TV location and to the D-Mark or MPOE (where the wires enter the home) - also run a cat 6 and Coax. With 4K-60 and 8K coming - fiber will be needed to handle the bandwidth. In a year or two you will be happy you did this. In addition to the fiber, also run 2 cat 6 to each TV location and run back the "home run" location (closet or basement) - Now you can keep all the cable boxes and video sources in 1 central location and gives you internet at each TV - make sure a cable jack and network location is also at the home run location. Don't forget speakers, TV and wifi outside - you may not do it now, but much easier to wire now

6 år sidenI’d run for cable and at least network to every room. Also, work with someone to plan a wireless network too with quality equipment. Dont go with the crappy best buy offerings and a repeater, use some pro-sumer or light enterprise grade stuff and you will be glad you did.

6 år sidenWe're also in over 4,200 sq.ft. home and have ceiling speakers (26(?) or so, in 7 zones); make sure you have them in the garage as well, and definately outside.
We've have augmented (for areas without ceiling speakers) with the Sonus and Google Home portable units; these we can move in to the garden or else where in the home as well, so every area/room doesn't have to be covered if unsure.
