I am curious about the horizontal joints in the board-and-batten. Is that a flashing detail? A venting detail? or is it just decorative? I like it. I am curious what it is and why it was done. Also, how is the roof venting handled? I really like how clean this roof edge looks!
thanks for asking, appreciate the compliments and apologies for the delay in responding! Aside from serving as subtle scaling device, those horizontals are a function of the natural limitation on material lengths and are achieved with a simple 'Z" flash. The roof is all non-vented ('cathedralized attic'), i.e. 3" min. closed-cell foam + cellulose fill in the rafter cavities.
