Colour Scheme to blend modern kitchen with pine lounge furniture.

I have a massive problem choosing a colour scheme for my rental flat.
It is open plan lounge/diner, with small kitchen to left. It is upside down L shape so you can see all, so need a colour scheme that is light and airey.
I have 2 pine chests of drawers in lounge due to small bedroom, so need ideas to incorporate both plus a small dining table at other end.
Your kitchen area is fantastic, showing you can blend both together.
Can you help with layout and colour scheme.
Not decorated for a while, so really needs lick of paint.
