Distance of cove lighting from celing?

Trying to decide how high to put my cove lighting. Ceiling is 9' and slopes up to maybe 15. I have it at 8' right now. There will be a piece of 1*2" walnut on the front.
Any advice? Led strip lights toward the front or wall side? Only used for mood lighting

For Create atmosphere would be nice any original artisanal chandelier, with Dimmable light! Think about it!

I went with 12" (I put 8'' boards on the floor and used them to hold up the cove and make it level) . it works fine
