No tile behind the wall mounted faucet?

My contractor told me there has to be tile behind the wall mounted faucet. I wonder how did you do it without one? I don’t want to put tile behind the faucet but I’m forced to choose one.

    Good Morning, if do not want a backsplash behind the faucet you do not need to have one, unless your location has a code that requires it.
