Cabinet panel tub/shower combo - so confused?!?

We are renovating the guest bathroom in our 1927 colonial home. It is not a large bathroom and the plan is to keep the layout pretty much the same.
The bathroom has two doors - one leads to a guest room and one leads to the hallway. Walking in the hallway door, you have the tub/shower to the left, the vanity to the right and the toilet past the vanity. Then the door to the guest room is on the left wall just past the tub and the window is on the back wall toward the left. The vanity is very shallow - 18 inches - so we will have a custom one built.

My issue/question is the tub/shower combo. The look I'd like to achieve is a newbathtub installed (30x60) - so it will be butted against two walls that will be tiled with subway tile. Then on the other two walls, I'd like to have a white cabinet panel surround the tub (not sure what that is called) and then have a marble slab surround sit on top of the tub on those same two walls and then put a frameless glass shower door sitting on top of that.

See picture for an example of what I mean by the white cabinet panel - I might be using the wrong name.

I'm trying to figure out what kind of tub I need to achieve this since my tub only installs against two walls - not 3 -- right now, the tub has a knee wall at the end by the door into the guest room. I'm so confused - do I need a drop-in, an undermount, something else? Will this design work? Appreciate any guidance!!!

For a tub installed on a platform like this, you could use either an under-mount or a drop-in bath tub. A drop-in would be less expensive and that looks like what they have in this picture. I don't know the dimensions of your bath, but keep in mind that if you install a tub on a platform, it will be larger than 30 x 60. Also, you can always make the knee wall a full wall and have an alcove. Then you could just install an alcove tub like the Kohler Archer ( http://www.us.kohler.com/us/Archer-60-x-30-alcove-bath-with-integral-apron,-tile-flange-and-right-hand-drain/productDetail/Archer/931164.htm?skuId=930935&categoryId=430085) and not have the platform. Or you can eliminate the knee wall all together, do the platform, and install a glass panel on that end of the tub to catch the shower spray.

We have extra room for the platform. I thought I read somewhere that a drop-in used with a shower would mean water running out of the shower because of the lip?

I don't think water would run out of the shower anymore than it would with a regular bath. I've never had anyone mention it. Maybe others have?

We have a drop in tub with a lip & shower combo & yes we get standing water after every shower on the lip. We are currently trying to figure out how to fix this issue without it looking like an afterthought...really struggling with how to fix this!

@mbbuckalew I'd start by making a new question thread, rather than tagging this thought randomly onto a three-yeard-old post. Not only are people more likely to contribute, but you'll get email notifications when you get a response!
