The Living room in this period properly in South London was painted in a warm grey, the floors were laid with smoked oak floorboards, and we furnished it with a mix of mid-century and contemporary furniture.

Sally was asked to design and oversee the complete refurbishment of this stunning yet poorly converted one bedroom apartment set in a handsome period mansion block on the outskirts of Covent Garden in Central London. Enormously high ceilings give this apartment a New York lofty feel while large original windows flood the space with natural light. Sally discovered that original windows and decorative pillars had been boarded up and so immediately set about reinstating these unique period features. A streamlined kitchen with expansive lightly veined worktops and contemporary oak cabinetry was designed to compliment a classic oak parquet floor, giving the apartment a light, contemporary and natural feel. Rich tones of walnut, brushed brass, shades of tobacco and forest green leather, chocolate velvet and earthy linens were all added to create a layered and eclectic palette set against a backdrop of atmospheric teal and interesting off-beat light fittings.

A TV room that is unapologetically moody and made for grown ups only. The walls and ceiling are drenched in deep green blue tones, cocooning the space in rich atmospheric colour. Tobacco accents add warmth and depth whilst the bespoke rug anchors the space with intention, guiding the eye and framing the furniture. This is a space for slow evenings, cinematic escapes and quiet luxury.

The drawing room cabinetry was finished in Little Greene Windmill Lane and featured tongue & groove paneling around the fireplace and in the back of the shelving units. We ran the coving around the front of the cabinetry, as well as using the same skirting throughout the room to create a built-in effect.

Anna Stathaki Here we have used darker wood tones to mimic the properties original step ladder, which leads up to a cosy mezzanine level. The addition of house plants is both on trend and brings the outside in, making the space a much more flowing and interesting space to inhabit.

Capturing the midcentury period perfectly is the Oblica suspended fireplace. The furniture is a lovely mix of a modern lounge and midcentury inspired armchairs. The bespoke joinery continues through to the living area. Photographer: Matthew Forbes
