The layout preserved an open flow between the main kitchen and a secondary “overflow” area. This space houses a wine cooler, coffee machine, additional preparation space, and the freezer. Keeping these elements outside the primary working triangle allowed the core kitchen functions to remain efficient, streamlined, and visually balanced. The walkthrough into this overflow area features low-level cabinets, with no part of the working triangle intruding, allowing the space to be used for ornaments and artwork, as the clients desired. This area is the first part of the kitchen visible when ascending the staircase and turning into the space, making the end wall a natural focal point.

A perfect balance of materials, technology and colour. Matte, handleless units perfectly balance the light, bespoke breakfast bar and open drawer units. Gaggenau appliances add a true sense of luxury, fitting seamlessly with the stainless steel surfaces to give a clean, modern feel.

The clients of this kitchen were well prepared by having put together a picture board which proved useful in designing a kitchen that fitted in with their tastes in design and finishes. The stainless steel benches were perfect for a busy cook, and the easy to clean surfaces worked well with food preparation. Though the principal colour was white, this was set off with the colours used for the floor to ceiling cabinetry as well the warm timber colours.

The existing house was poorly planned after a many renovations. The entry to the house was through a verandah that had previously been enclosed and the cottage had multiple unconnected living spaces with pour natural light and connection to the beautiful established gardens. With some simple internal changes the renovation allowed removal of the enclosed verandah and have the entry realigned to the central part of the house. Existing living areas where repurposed as sleeping spaces and a new living wing established to house a master bedroom and ensuite upstairs. The new living wing gives you an immediate sense of balance and calm as soon as you walk into the double-height living area. The new wing area beautifully captures filtered light on the north and west, allowing views of the established garden on all sides to enter the interior spaces.
