I like the color on the dining chairs that is similar to the wallpaper in the nook. As part of the renovation, Skilling widened the opening between the kitchen and formal dining room. This shot is taken from inside the dining space.

I like the ceiling detail and the combination of warm wood tones with white cabinets.

When it comes to the right number of finishes for an open-plan room, it’s generally wise to use no fewer than three and no more than five. And remember, when choosing finishes it’s important to create a balanced look. If, for example, you have a lot of hard materials, such as stone, in the kitchen, balance them out with curves and warm materials, such as wood, in the dining and living areas
nothing compares with the look and feel of natural materials such as marble and other stones and real wood floors, all of which evolve over time to feature a patina that can’t be mimicked or repeated.
Light wood flooring, in particular, is a top request among many designers we spoke to. French oak and white oak are popular species.
