I consider soapstone to be a living finish. It does scratch: however, the more scratching the more beautiful if becomes. The scratching creates a patina that I find to be warm and inviting. Soapstone is a material that shows the use and love of many generations. Unlike granite and other quartz product that look hard and cold, soapstone looks warm and hand rubbed

The wooden countertops were fashioned out of reclaimed hardwood that was taken from a dilapidated barn iout of Lexington Kentucky's horse country.. Ash, I believe they were. We skip planed them at my shop, and finished them with a matte polyurethane varnish..

Hmmm, not sure I'd trust a wood countertop around a cooktop. However, bing just on the island, could refinish countertop every few years.

This countertop is a maple stain with some distressing; it was created by a CT firm that pioneered waterproofed wood for countertops. It’s a very specific technique they use, not everyone can seal it so well. The wood needs some care but can hold up with a sink in it.

The countertop on the island is from Pyrolave. This particular color was custom made, but they do have some similar blues in their standard offering. --> What is Pyrolave?

A dark gray granite, looks honed: The counter tops are a granite, known locally (Slabco in Elberton Georgia) as Mystic Grey Satin.

This is Pental Quartz St Laurent. It's a bit shinny; can quartz be honed like granite? Which is cheaper?

Counter top is hone Jet Mist granite. Should be a bit cheaper than soapstone & Manny will probs like it better since it won't show wear as much, Not as dark as Absolute Black granite & seems to have some streaks as well.

Pietra del Cardoza sandstone countertop. Looks sim to soapstone. How does it hold up? Stains? Easy to clean? Like the cool blue-gray color. Better color than the darker soapstone?

Never heard of pewter used of countertops (also the range hood is pewter. Assume that this costs a million$, but do love the soft look - wondering if stainless can be honed to look like this. Hmmm.
