VanderHorn ArchitectsOpposite the fireplace wall, a paneled, arch top cased opening leads to an intimate reading nook offering glimpses to the Long Island Sound.
Adrienne DeRosaPart of the couple's draw to an eclectic style was based on the premise of each getting what they wanted out of the space. Although it may have initially posed a challenge to integrate Chelsea and Kiel's personal styles, the living room combines the two in perfect harmony. "Kiel tends to gravitate toward more masculine, rustic, and industrial pieces while I like more bright, colorful and whimsical pieces", states Chelsea.
The mid-century chair and ottoman were found at a garage sale for $5 and reupholstered by Kiel's mother. Unassuming doses of color and pattern lend a light-hearted quality to the grouping.

Flavin ArchitectsThis remodel of a mid century gem is located in the town of Lincoln, MA a hot bed of modernist homes inspired by Gropius’ own house built nearby in the 1940’s. By the time the house was built, modernism had evolved from the Gropius era, to incorporate the rural vibe of Lincoln with spectacular exposed wooden beams and deep overhangs.
The design rejects the traditional New England house with its enclosing wall and inward posture. The low pitched roofs, open floor plan, and large windows openings connect the house to nature to make the most of its rural setting.

VanderHorn ArchitectsA classical fireplace featuring fluted Doric pilasters and a decorative frieze grace the living room. Handsome, custom designed trim and cornice mouldings further complement the space. The cased opening on the right opens onto the billiard’s room.
