The Brass Knob

We have used the Brass Knob for a number of light fixture restoration projects. The team is skilled, polite, and fun to work with. Plus, the shop is a delight to look around. Yes, the prices are high, but the quality of their work is worth it.

Donetta and her colleagues at The Brass Knob are amazing to work with! And, the lighting fixtures and hardware available at the store are beautiful. There are pieces that work for every budget and the selection is unbeatable. So much better to view these beautiful fixtures in person versus shopping online! They are knowledgeable too and willing to go the extra mile to help you -- for example, I needed to know more about the wattage of a light fixture and they changed out the bulbs several times to test out different bulbs. They are also a great place for the repair of light fixtures and know exactly what they are doing.

I have been a customer of the Brass Knob for around 15 years. I've purchased a variety of period lighting and accessories dating from the early 20th century. Items for sale are well presented and varied in terms of style and date. Many things have been expertly restored, while there are some untouched items available for the do-it-yourselfer. The staff is knowledgeable not only about the items for sale but can also provide installation advice regarding appropriate period and stlye. The staff is courteous and always willing to help.

Donetta George and her colleagues at The Brass Knob are masters at reclaiming and recycling antique and vintage hardware, stonework, millwork, glass,lighting and countless other salvage items. Our Queen Anne Victorian had great bones but had been stripped by its prior owners of its original features (fireplace mantels, ceiling medallions, hardware, etc.). We wanted to restore our home to its former glory but did not know where to start. Donetta, who has decades of experience with historic preservation, guided us in designing a plan to restore the integrity of the interior. We spent many happy hours at The Brass Knob, both poking around in search of ideas and imagining ways to repurpose salvage pieces. An ever changing inventory of mantels, grilles, period lighting, stained glass, architectural and garden elements, hardware, stained glass windows and quirky odds and ends always made the hunt rewarding. Salvage almost always needs some restoration and Donetta always knew what was needed. She found the missing pieces like a proper set screw, rosette or spindle, the perfect glass shade, rejuvenated rusty cast iron into polished beauties, and rewired period lighting for modern usage Her inspiration, inventory and ingenuity breathed new life into salvaged materials.
