When I was a kid, one of my first fossils came from the Green River Formation in Wyoming. Still a naturalist with a love of earth materials, I was delighted to learn of Green River Stone Company, a business which digs and prepares museum-caliber fossil pieces for design use - - especially in kitchen and bathrooms.
My bathroom was built in 1974 and had not been updated. I called Doug Miller, Partner at Green River Stone early in the project. This bathroom is tiny, but it is the master bath, and my husband and I wanted it to be special. Doug examined photos of this small bathroom, went over measurements, and proposed ways that I could use fossils in my bathroom. The drawings he created were excellent. The options allowed me to identify the best match for my budget and style. We went with a vanity top and two half-walls of stone. Moreover, Doug and his design team helped me select other important element for the space, such as complementary tile (tumbled marble, in my case), fixtures (I went with Kohler Artisan in oil rubbed bronze) and even trim (Green River cut thin pieces which matched the vanity top, to "sandwich" between travertine trim chair-rail pieces.)
Before the items shipped, my half-walls of Green River Stone tiles were laid out, photographed and numbered, so than installation was a breeze for my tile contractor. When my box of materials arrived in Massachusetts, we were all amazed by the care and quality of packaging and preparation. It was extraordinary! (If you've bought Apple computer products, you may have an idea, but Stone River is even more derail--oriented.) Unbelievably, the fossil fish were more beautiful than in their pictures! I went with the Natural Cleft matrix. The look and feel of the stone is amazing.
The day before Thanksgiving, my contractor arrived to silicon the under-mount sink to my gorgeous Green River vanity top - - featuring a large and rare fossil Notogoneus (fossil fish). There was a question about sealants, so I called Doug. Even at holiday time, he picked up the phone and happily gave me an answer on the spot.
The bathroom is nearly done. My new Thermasol Steam Shower is cool, and the arched tumbled marble ceiling and towel warmer are really nice. But the Green River Stone fossils are the cats's meow! Thank you Doug, and the whole team at Green River Stone - - you made my dream of a perfect bathroom come true!
