There are a thousand choices to be made when we commit to making a space. Decisions concerning function, budget, and aesthetics can for many people, become overwhelming. Whether you seek the transformation of a single room, an entire property or your place of business, I can help. With thirty years of experience in the field of design, my company has been providing design and color consultations to a local and international clientele since 1984, bringing sensitivity and a sense of fun to the work. As an experienced colorist, I have a deep understanding of hue and it’s effect on space as well as the human psyche. If you would like to help in selecting the right interior & exterior paint colors, we can turn a daunting and sometimes frustrating process into a fulfilling creative experience. My interest in green design and homes that are healthy for people and the planet has led me to become a founding member of the US Green Builders Association/Berkshire Branch. My environmental concerns influence my recommendations for energy efficient insulation, fixtures, sustainable building materials and non-toxic finishes. The studio is located in Lenox, Massachusetts, the epicenter of The Berkshires. We have a second office on the coast of Rhode Island and we serve New Shoreham, Block Island, Boston and the New England Coast. I will start with the bottom line: We engaged Karen Beckwith to completely redesign the tired interior of our Block Island, RI house in preparation for sale, but we fell so much in love with the outcome that we decided to keep the house instead. What Karen accomplished began with her vision: one that lightened the interior, used her acute sense for the nuances of color to bring the outside in, highlighted engaging architectural features, and introduced a less cluttered and more contemporary look. It was that vision that made it possible to integrate into a coherent whole changes that included repainting every room, refinishing and re-carpeting the floors, redoing the bathrooms and kitchen, and pursuing details right down to window treatments, lighting, bathroom and kitchen fixtures, artwork and more. Along the way she solved decorating problems that had remained unsolved for years. In addition, she proved adept at moving around and redeploying our existing furniture and artwork to remarkable effect. She called this “shopping at home”. It was amazing to see how much more striking they were after her redeployment. The result of all of this wonderful work that the feeling of the house has entirely changed. It almost seems to float. It is a light and airy place and it lifts one’s spirits accordingly. I keep thinking “this is terrific.” We could not be more delighted.

Karen Beckwith Creative did a wonderful of transforming our tired 150 year old home. Her imaginative use of colors and creativity has brigthened and seemingly enlarged the appearance of the home. Her excellent project management skills assured that everyone knew what to do and that the project was completed on time. I would use her again.

Karen and her team got right to work on my project - which was very important to me because I had a short time period in which to complete everything. All the people she had working were excellent and even nice! I like Karen's taste and recommend her without reservation.

We worked together with Karen and her design team over the past 2 1/2 years (August 2013 - January 2016) to furnish our newly purchased and completely empty home. We initially hired Karen because we were told that she listens to her clients. That was very important to us as we embarked on furnishing a large, empty house and creating a beautiful home. From the outset, Karen worked together with us on all aspects of our large, long-term project. Together, we created a beautiful home. Karen is an extremely talented designer and artist; a beautiful combination. She created fabulous floor, wall and ceiling plans, discovered fabulous fabrics, wood finishes, art work, furniture and even custom designed some of our favorite pieces. Karen and her team made sure all details of our project were carefully attended to, including ensuring our complete understanding on each and every purchase, being present for deliveries/installations to make sure everything was as planned. If something didn't go as planned, Karen, along with her team did everything possible to rectify the issue. It was our pleasure to work with Karen and her team. Their artistry, professionalism, creativity and follow through on all aspects of our project were always evident. We could not have dreamed of having the beautiful home that we now have.

Karen Beckwith Creative took on the challenge of designing a kitchen for my small New York apartment in 2015. The result is elegant and pleasing. The contractor, electrician, and building staff all said it was the most tasteful they'd ever seen. Most important, I get a thrill every time I walk into it. Did a fantastic job merging my husband and mine different decorating ideas. Understood our needs and surpassed them! Karen knew we were on a tight time frame and all the furniture was delivered and set up in time for a fall party. Karen met and surpassed our expectation. We couldn't be happier.

Karen Beckwith and her crew just completed a room makeover for me. I live 250 miles away from my home in the Berkshires so it was a godsend to have Karen and her team of pros manage every phase of the project. They really listened to what I wanted and were spot on with their suggestions. Karen was sensitive to my budget and sought bids from the various sub-contractors for all of the work done in the house. She hired great people who came when they were supposed to come. I can't imagine the entire process without their tasteful advice and expert coordination. I'm thrilled with the end result. We recently relocated to the Berkshires and were struggling to define a vision for our midcentury modern home. We found Karen on Houzz and spoke with her on the phone before setting up an in person meeting. We came to the meeting with vision boards for most of the rooms and a strict overall budget. Karen was friendly and understood our need to stay within the budget we created. She created an open atmosphere to discuss our ideas, thought of things we hadn’t considered, and brought cohesion to the look of the home. I would strongly recommend her work.

Karen and her team transformed our lake house into something I never could have imagined. The surrounding lake and mountains always gave our home a "wow" effect from the outside, and now we have the same on the inside. As second home owners with a large family, Karen listened when we told her our house needed to be comfortable and welcoming. She achieved that and so much more. Now it is as though the natural beauty outside is an extension of our home. The natural stone floors and the plank-like tiles in the renovated bathrooms make you feel as though you're in a luxury spa. Mirrors, cabinetry, lighting, heated floors -- not a detail left unthought of. With lots of open space in our home, Karen artfully coordinated each space with color and fabrics that create a seamless flow from room to room. Karen took the time to get to know me and my "style" before presenting me with options for furnishings, lighting, window treatments, art work, etc. Before purchasing new furniture, Karen looked to see what could be used from our existing furnishings. I don't mind saying it: I have the most beautiful house!!! Thanks Karen, and Michelle too! P.S. Karen works with the best contractors!

Karen Beckwith is a treasure. Always respectful of my budget and design choices, she delivered an elegant and luxurious master bed-bath suite that is an oasis of serenity, beauty and comfort; it also blends seamlessly with the rest of my home. Karen's design pushed my ideas in imaginative directions I didn't foresee -- but that fit my tastes and needs perfectly. She seemed somehow to intuit my heart's desire! Karen managed every detail of ordering and delivery, rode herd on my contractor, and fly-specked all aspects of installation. She was always 100 percent responsive and made everything extremely easy for me. And aside from the fantastic design process and results, she is personally delightful to share one's time with; on shopping outings, in her studio, or on the phone -- she is a warm, authentic, open-hearted, passionate artist. I am not exaggerating when I say that Karen Beckwith has deeply enriched my life!
