Dallas Award Winning Interior Designer

Mary Anne, recognized by her peers as one of the top designers in Dallas for several years, was born in Seminole, Oklahoma and is an honor graduate of Oklahoma State University. One of the first designers registered in the State of Texas after passing the NCIDQ exam, Ms. Smiley is a professional member of ASID, and is four qualified in AutoCAD. Ms. Smiley has been published in a myriad of publications, and is the recipient of numerous awards for excellence in design. Ms. Smiley began drawing house plans in fourth grade. Her obsession led her to enroll in Architecture at OSU. But it was the mid 60’s and to her surprise she was informed by the Dean that “women do not enroll in architecture.” Not to be daunted, Ms. Smiley walked across the street to enroll in Interior Design and Fine Art and launched her successful career in interior design. She professes it has been a marvelous adventure ever since. Ms. Smiley’s career path has taken her from Oklahoma to Colorado, California, and Texas with projects completed on both coasts and all in between. After living for 18 years in Athens, Texas, a magnet for getaway homes and ranches of the rich and famous of Dallas, Ms. Smiley relocated her design firm to Dallas. Ms. Smiley is known for her use of bright spots of pure color supported by soft lovely pearl finish backgrounds, and for her avant-garde mix of exquisite antiques and layers of sumptuous textiles with contemporary and cutting edge products from metallics to recycled plastics. Her AutoCAD skills have given her the ability to design her own furnishings and products, when unique and creative solutions are required, resulting in recognition for product design. Ms. Smiley loves color and was one of the pioneers of the use of bright color in Dallas, and consequently in the US. Ms. Smiley loves time at home with her family, a grown daughter with her own professional career and 3 mini dachshunds and a golden retriever. She and her daughter have a love of all forms of art and nature, and enjoy dabbling in water colors purely for personal pleasure. Ms. Smiley recently illustrated the children’s book, SAM’S BIRTHMARK. Miss Smiley has been on the Best Designers in Dallas list for the past 9 years, and was celebrated in 2013 as one of the FAB FIVE TOP DESIGNERS IN DALLAS by Luxe and roche Bobois.

We first worked with Mary Anne on our new home build over 20 years ago and, when it was time for a remodel last year there was never a question she was the designer we knew we wanted. She delivered above and beyond. She assured us that opening up our kitchen/tv room, adding a beverage/sink/overhead cabinet area would be fantastic and functional - she was right! Our new furnishings are beautiful and fit our family perfectly. As an added bonus, she’s a joy to work with.

We made the right choice with MAS for our remodel. MAS and her amazing team exceeded my expectations. All of the crews from demo to painters to installers were experts in their field. Mary Anne's incredible experoemce and knowledge in space planning allowed her to design our project in a way that allows us to fully utilize the areas in scope. Mary Anne just completed our new home project and we couldn’t be happier. We first worked together in 1984 in our first home. This time she helped from the plan up. I could never have made all the decisions that go into a new build without her. And our furnishings just made it come alive! She has only gotten better with age and experience!!

We engaged Mary Anne Smiley to design a floor plan for a contemporary house. She listened to our requests, being vey patient through the entire process. She also designed the elevations, windows, etc. We intended to engage an architect to complete the plans but our builder said he didn't think an architect could make any improvements and he had all the details that he needed. Mary Anne worked with the limitations of a narrow lot with a steep slope, fitting the entire house on a single level with all the features and adjacencies that we desired. We love the open floor plan with floor to ceiling windows that provide natural light and great views of the golf course below. We couldn't be more pleased.

Mary Anne was referred to us by a dear friend who has known her for years and expertly designed various homes for her family. We were stunned by the beauty of Mary Anne’s work with our friend’s ranch and how she integrated family art and heirlooms with our friend’s personal style. We had no idea what to expect working with a designer, especially during quarantine, yet we hoped with the purchase of our new house that Mary Anne and her team could create a beautiful environment for our family, too. The day their hard work was delivered to our house, from our beautiful furniture to rugs to pillows, we immediately felt peace. I had tears in my eyes as I saw our house transformed into a home, and we felt the impact of their creative talent. We sincerely appreciate how patient Mary Anne and Dani were throughout the process. Construction and moving during the quarantine was quite a stressful time, yet they stood by us, and they took the time to listen and ease our minds. Mary Anne skillfully grasped right away our needs and the team pulled together our existing furniture and our collective style into a cohesive and beautiful design. We highly recommend Mary Anne and her team, and we hope to use them again. They are passionate about their work, wonderfully approachable, responsive, and truly talented.

Mary Anne and Dani are incredibly talented designers. And, they are very patient!! They took my 1960s ranch home and completely transformed the space. Dani listened to my wish list on how I wanted to use the space for each member of my family and created a functional, beautiful home. She pushed me out of my comfort zone for which I am so grateful. It is so overwhelming trying to pick out every little detail but Dani had a vision and she knew what I wanted and helped bring it all together. From space planning, to selecting tiles, fixtures, flooring, hardware and creating a furniture plan, she pulled it all together for the mid-century vibe I wanted. I feel so blessed to have been able to work with Mary Anne Smiley and Dani Burbridge. When friends and family come over, they are truly amazed at the transformation. I highly recommend them!

Mary Anne guided us through every step of our 2+ year home construction project. We incorporated her numerous suggestions for design and floorplan improvements. She designed and provided detailed drawings of cabinetry for our study, kitchen, pantry and utility room that are far beyond what we would ever have conceptualized. She designed our home’s lighting system, even providing detailed drawings for the electricians. Her gift for creative design has been absolutely stellar while her vast network of suppliers affords her clients a wide range of unique furnishings, lighting fixtures and works of art. She made efficient use of time in managing our project. Her ability to communicate her vision to our builder and subcontractors proved invaluable in executing our construction plans. Due to our relationship with Mary Anne, we now occupy a home that exceeds our every expectation and that we will enjoy for many years to come. We cannot recommend Mary Anne highly enough.

Working in a penthouse condo with tons of floor to ceiling windows is difficult. We wanted to enhance our space without disturbing our beautiful view. I had an outstanding experience! My parents were looking to modernize a large family room, while still maintaining the original feeling of the room which they had enjoyed for nearly 40 years. Mary Anne and team showed tremendous respect for my parents' feelings while still proposing exciting and game changing improvements. They gave us several options in their proposals, with clear cost and time estimates. Once work started, the team did a great job coordinating the work, and they finished on time and on budget. The result, which included new lighting, bookshelves, furniture, and other accents, were simply amazing. The area of the house has been transformed.

I have been privileged to work with Mary Anne on several projects over the past decade. The results have always exceeded my expectations. Because of her timeless designs, I am still thrilled today with her work in my home even ten years ago. Most recently, we are working on my teenage daughter's room. And not surprisingly, we are adding to elements she designed years ago, not changing them. With Mary Anne Smiley, there is always a "wow" factor. MaryAnn came in and brought happy to our home. She knew how to bring in awesome color along with her incredible design experience. She used what we had and helped us add the perfect touches to pull it all together. She's fun, knowledgable, experienced and compassionate. My Mother passed while we were working with her on our project and she handled us so well by keeping things going and was so kind to bring yummy comfort food. It's been my pleasure to work with Mary Anne on a wide range of projects over the last seven years. She and her staff are extremely professional. I have worked with her for 20 plus years and know that from remodeling, to space planning, fabrics, furniture, or window treatments all her work is grounded in the principles of good design. She is knowledgeable in all styles and periods of design. She truly understands color. No project is too big for her. She always knows the latest in products and materials available. Her work is sophisticated while practical, and has energy and function. Ms Smiley has helped us remodel our home three times and she helped with the design and furnishings in a professional building that has ten office spaces.

She has so much experience over the years and has worked with many different clients to achieve their design goals whether it be their primary, secondary or vacation homes. Mary Anne recently completed an extensive design remake of our 1940's home. She listened intently to our desire to transform our cape cod traditional space to soft contemporary. She has extensive knowledge and understanding of architecture and design and was able to communicate effectively with our architect and contractor in order to create that look. She worked tirelessly with all her quality tradesmen to produce custom made sofas, rugs, art, stairs, etc. that turned out way beyond our expectations. Mary Anne is extremely gifted and talented as a designer and is at the forefront of creating exquisite and stunning work. I definitely will use her again!

Mary Anne Smiley is a wonderful designer who was involved in most aspects of our home, built 4 years ago. She designed all cabinets, lighting, furniture (including custom furniture), rugs, tile work. She also oversaw art installation and helped with selection. She even helped with the move, arranging books, etc. She is very talented, listens to her clients, and is a tireless worker!

Mary Anne Smiley has decorated two homes for us and they were both full of "wow" factors. She made it simple, as as soon as we decided on one element, she took off and pulled together a beautiful schematic that flowed from one beautiful room to another. She is very creative, fun to work with and gets the job done! We highly recommend her!

Kommenteret: Knoll Barcelona Chair RedNo idea. we did that project over 10 years ago. go with the texture and color you like but just be sure to do Spinneybeck which is the traditioval leather used by Knoll.
