Founded in 2004 by Nate Grabill, Pioneer West Homes is an award-winning custom home building company specializes in designing and building highly energy-efficient custom homes. Our philosophy is to build homes that are not only exceptional from a craftsmanship and design standpoint but also push the boundaries in energy efficient design. We were the first company in Southern Colorado to certify a LEED for Homes project as Gold and Platinum. As well, we are the only custom homebuilder in Southern Colorado to commit to building 100% of our homes to the strict Energy Star Version 3 Standards. Our design and build process allows our customers to build their unique ideas and specific needs into the home of their dreams. We specialize in many types of energy-efficient construction techniques including ICF (insulated concrete forms), foam insulation, solar thermal, solar electric and geo-thermal heating and cooling. We are proud to be a part of many great communities in Southern Colorado. We consider Southern Colorado our home territory and build homes in the following counties: El Paso, Pueblo, Cheyenne, Custer, Fremont, Huerfano, Kiowa, Kit Carson and Las Animas. We have proven ourselves as the leader in combining quality craftsmanship with innovative designs. For the past 8 years Pioneer West Homes has won many awards in the Pueblo Parade of Homes. In addition, we have been awarded the prestigious People's Choice Award for 8 consecutive years. The People's Choice Award is based on the votes of the people that tour the Pueblo Parade of Homes. In 2013 we entered our first home in the Colorado Springs Parade of Homes. We won 5 of the 7 industries awards in the $1,000,000 and over category. These awards were: Best Kitchen, Best Master Suite, Best Landscaping, Best Overall Home and the one we are most proud of; Best Craftsmanship! We are proud to be the leader in Southern Colorado in energy efficient home building. In 2009, Pioneer West Homes became the first builder in Pueblo County to join the U.S. Green Building Council and begin certifying homes to the LEED for Homes standard. In 2009, we became the first builder in Southern Colorado to certify a home to Gold LEED for Homes Standards. In 2013, we became the first builder in Southern Colorado to certify a single-family home to Platinum, the highest certification available in LEED for Homes.

I am extremely satisfied with the workmanship provided by Nate Grabil and his team at Pioneer West. Nate was very thorough in all stages of construction, and I was always kept in the loop as to what was going on. It was refreshing to have a contractor listen, remember and follow through on our ideas. This construction was more of a process, figuring out what we wanted as we went along, resulting in frequent changes which did not seem to faze the team. Nate and his wife, Kristi Grabil, helped us select materials and colors, everything from tile, carpet, paint, lights etc. Our Westcliffe Home was completed on time with attention to detail by a competent team of subcontractors. Ryan was always available to answer questions or concerns. Our house turned out much more beautiful than we expected! I would highly recommend this construction company. This was the most refreshing contracting company that I have ever worked with; personable, reliable, competent, honest and with the highest level of integrity in building. Over the years I have worked on numerous residential and commercial projects.

I never write reviews, but boy does this company need one. Hired them in summer of 15 to design and build my house All winter long preliminary plans were in budget, as we get near time to build spring of 16 the plans have now gone $100k higher, and are not anything to my liking. We don't even have working blue prints. They held onto me all winter with shallow promises that never developed. Now I have to find new builders and start all over when I should be in a home this fall. Told them no stucco, or shingles, etc. They bring me elevations with stucco, shingles, etc. Could only recommend this builder if you want to build it their way, any ideas of your own go in one ear and out the other as there is nothing in between to stop them. Was just about to file small claims when the refund showed.

Pioneer West Home Builders are well-versed in design and construction of residential homes and they back up their work with immediate follow-up inspections and step-by-step reviews of their activities with their clients. You get what you pay for and this company does NOT skip on quality!

My husband and I have finally found the builder of our dreams. Pioneer West Homes is the third general contractor we’ve hired to build a custom home and three times is the charm. Nate’s incredible attention to detail, online scheduling and financial management tools and focus on hiring the best subcontractors ensure we had the house of our dreams. His wife, Kristi, provided amazing design support from granite to carpet, to wall colors. We are extremely pleased with the quality of the finishes in our home. We are also pleased with the energy efficiency. We chose an ICF foundation, energy efficient heating system and a fully insulated main floor. Nate was the consummate professional and no detail was left to linger. He was very responsive to email questions. We got the home of our dreams and would gladly recommend Pioneer West to any prospective home owner. There are many general contractors to choose from, but save yourself the time and contact Pioneer West Homes. Judging from our personal experience, you will not be disappointed.

After losing our house to wildfire, we looked at a number of builders to work on our rebuild. We had had a passive solar home and wished to do this again. Pioneer West Homes stood out in a number of ways - experience with energy efficiency, quality construction and materials, technologically savvy, honesty and integrity and a serious work ethic. Nate went above and beyond to help us document things we needed for insurance. He was always prompt in responding to communication and questions. We really liked the on-line schedule so we could always see what was coming up. His wife, Kristi, helped with selections and had a great eye for color and materials. Everyone was friendly and easy to work with, from the Grabills and their staff to subcontractors. We have a beautiful, warm home as a result and wouldn't change a thing!

I hired Pioneer West Homes to build my new home after my old one had burned down. They did an awesome job! Having never built a new home, I was very nervous about what to do. A friend of mine recommended that I build a concrete home. Not knowing where to even begin, she recommended Nate Grabill of Pioneer West Homes. After looking at some of his work and his website, I asked him if he would be interested in building an ICF home for me. Since I live in New Mexico and he was in Colorado, I wasn't sure if he would even consider it, because of the distance involved. He agreed to do it, and I am forever grateful. His subcontractors were very good. I had a few issues with one of them, but Nate made sure they did the job right and I was very happy with the outcome. There was one instance where I didn't pay attention to the plans and I needed, what I considered a drastic change, made after the framing had started. I was afraid to even mention it , but I got the courage up to approach Nate and after looking it over, he assured me that it could be done. I was so pleased! Any time I had any questions or wanted something added, they were so good to accommodate me. A whole house fan is installed as well as a whole house humidifier because of the all the wood throughout the house and the fact that we live in a very dry climate. It's as though Nate thought of everything. The house is now complete, but they scheduled a one month walk through and a 6 month walkthrough in order to address issues that they knew about and to see if I had come upon anything that they might have missed. How awesome is that?!!! Yes, very professional, very good work, and very accommodating to my needs. I would highly recommend Pioneer West Homes to anyone building a new home. I know I have missed some high points, but I have an absolutely beautiful, well built home on a ranch in Northeastern New Mexico!

My husband and I have searched for years for a builder to suit our expectations. When we found Pioneer West, they exceeded our expectations. Pioneer West specializes in green building. There is no other house in our area that is as efficient, let alone as beautiful. I highly recommend them.

Pioneer West Homes helped us to put our dream together and make it a reality. We knew what we wanted, just not how to get there. After several meetings with Nate, our plans started coming together and within 6 months of breaking ground, we moved into our dream home in the mountains of Colorado. Pioneer West Homes pays attention to detail and does things right. They are willing to stand behind their construction and replace or repair anything that isn't quite right. They conduct business with honesty and integrity, which is difficult to find in businesses these days.

Pioneer West homes and Nate Grabill performed an admirable job for us. We choose this builder quickly after another contractor declined our project. At the time we had this house built we were living in another state and trusted them implicitly. Estimates and project schedule were timely. Pictures were sent weekly so that we could review the process and time line. There were not a lot of builder add on costs for unforeseen issues. They kept us informed about weather related delays which are common in this area. Nate kept us informed via email at all times on the progress of the project. Change orders that we initiated were priced and completed in a timely manner. Warranty issues were handled in a timely and professional manner. Would highly recommend this contractor as we have done four times now.

We had friends who recommended Pioneer West. We respected their opinion and so received an estimate from this company regarding building our new home in the mountains. The company was very receptive and timely with our work once we hired them. Essentially we are very, very pleased with the work Pioneer West did. The main contractor, Nate Grabil, was always on time and on "mark" with estimates and work dates. The work by sub-contractors was good. We had few complaints. We are very pleased with the home we have.

Every detail was thoroughly reviewed and weekly meetings kept us informed and on track throughout the entire process. My husband & I hired Nate Grabill & Pioneer West Homes to build our retirement home on mountain property after receiving rave recommendations from previous clients. During construction, we physically saw the house twice as we were living outside the US. Nate set up a website for us to keep track of progress via regularly posted photos from groundbreaking through all aspects of construction and arranged conference calls as needed. Kristi Grabill was also very helpful taking us to the various vendors for flooring, lighting, plumbing, etc. during two very short trips back to the States during Christmas and March. The first week of April 2010 our home received final approval from the county building inspector and we were ready to begin retirement life. Nate goes beyond the norm for custom home builders. Budgets are carefully watched while providing the highest quality and each home is built with the same attention to detail and pride of workmanship as if it was his own. Besides being able to enjoy living in a wonderful home, I am also blessed to have Nate and Kristi as very dear friends.
