Studio 15b - Architecture + Interior Design

We engaged Allison to create a useable year-round outdoor space to our existing deck. She was able to navigate our building and budget challenges, but at the same time extend the brief and incorporate our aspirations while doing so. We felt like we were on the same page almost immediately. There were so many conversations that were easy and overall, we had a lovely experience from start to finish. We are delighted with the outcome and can’t wait to use our new space.

Thank you Allison for our first Architect adventure. New to the design opportunities offered us, we wanted uncluttered style that made the most of the exisiting Queensland cottage and the land, with it's bush and rainforest environment. The design needed to meld the old Queenslander with a new extension and work to a build budget of $200,000. Allison prepared a schedule that was sequential, easy to navigate and upfront with costs. As owner builders, we are milling our own timber and will use the Japanese Shou sugi ban method of preserving the timber. Allison embraced our involvement and the use of our own materials in the build giving considered thought to our options. She was innovative with design and understood our desire for a secret Wow factor along with my need for it to fully accessible. Allison's patient and meticulous approach suited 2 full time working people. Communication was frequent and effective (face to face, Skype, phone and email) and Allison was never phased by our silly questions. Allison's style, patience and problem solving skills delivered us the plans for our dream home. She is clever, friendly and accomodating and we found her absolutely meticulous in all aspects. All our approvals are completed and we are now ready to begin the project as owner builders! The photo below is our "before" photo.

We didn't realise the amazing value that a good architect could bring until working with Alison and Studio 15b. Her attention to detail and meticulous planning made the build process so much easier to navigate for both us and the builders. I went to Studio 15B for professional help since I live in an area with a Traditional Building Character Overlay eg. Newfarm, Bardon, and needed help getting my project approved with council. It was previously unapproved through the builder’s draft-person’s plans but Studio 15B provided me with great quality work that resulted in my project getting approved! Overall it was affordable, professional work that I’m really happy with.

Working with Allison from Studio 15b has been a pleasure. Allison quickly understood our scope of works and made what is often a stressful process very enjoyable designing and developing our home. She has a very relaxed persona, but her work is very comprehensive and always on time and within budget - there was little need for back and forth.
