We installed this garden a few years after the major installation. There were small pieces of the evil plant Equisetum in the soil mix, that over time became a pest. We shut off the water and put in a desert garden instead. Problem solved. photos by Caitlin Atkinson
Ecoscape Environmental Design
Before the Ecoscape designers created this backyard terrace design, this space was an odd- shaped, upwardly sloping, compacted-dirt yard with a smattering of straggly turf, assorted weeds, and a few undesirable Russian olive trees. The graduated redstone pathway is the focal point, drawing the eye upwards, with terraced beds adding texture and visual interest. Sod was added in a few key spots, however it is the water-wise perennial plantings that provide much- needed nutrition for our pollinator friends. Instead of having a sad, uninspiring backyard, the homeowner gained a lot of functional garden space with the raised beds and rock outcroppings. When covered with snow, the shapes and curves created through stonework will keep this yard interesting throughout Colorado's long winter, which often goes right though April and May. As new plants emerge in the spring, the redstone creates pockets of warmth, helping them through the fluctuating low temperatures.

Another view and another season in this beautiful back yard. Circle-on-circle and curve-on-curve, became the theme for this suburban Minneapolis back yard. A step-out deck connects to the lower screened porch and several outdoor patios. Each curve becomes concentric, as patterns and paths expand throughout the landscape setting. Credit: Tad Anderson. Gardens & Projects
The Lower Area surrounding the new conservatory will be a patio with an ample dining table and pathway using Global Stone Porcelain.
The Middle Area of the garden will be terraced with brushwood sleepers and wide format steps. It will be leveled with turfing sand and turfed with field drainage and with zones for sitting and enjoying the silence on a sunny afternoon.
Upper Area - along the fence line, white birch multi-stemmed trees that can cope with the harsh windy environment, give aesthetic value, and also help with drainage. The very top corner of the garden becomes a small patio with features to enjoy the views.

In this project we show case the use of a custom concrete bench for the use of a wood fire pizza oven. We have cut back into the existing ground to create storage for fire wood.

The client wanted to extend her living space outside. With an all weather pergola and luvered roof with heaters we creating an outside room with lush planting. The new deck is at the same level as the floor in the house so the two spaces feel connected. The deck continues around the side of the house where there is a private area for a spa which is not over looked. The custome made horizontal slatted fence gives a contempory feel and was painted black so that it wasn't too obtrusive.

This home backed up to a new and busy hiking trail.
The homeowner requested privacy without a fence. Various evergreen and deciduous trees were chosen for their drought tolerance and durability. There is a heavy duty landscape fabric underneath rocks and mulch. We left several planting spaces open for spring bulbs. The homeowner splurged for larger than usual trees in order to obtain privacy immediately. This is a wonderland in the winter, as the homeowner decorates each tree with lights. Photograph by TF.
