This is a garden office pod built for a client in Hemel Hempstead.

This is a design project completed for Garden Hideouts (www.gardenhideouts.co.uk) where we designed the new Retreat Pod. This one contains a small kitchen area and dining area which can convert to double bed. Other designs include playrooms, offices, treatment rooms and hobby rooms.

The room above this oak framed outbuilding combines traditional craftsmanship with modern comfort, creating a versatile and inviting space. The exposed oak beams are a standout feature, adding character and warmth to the interior. These beams not only provide structural support but also enhance the room's rustic charm. This open plan area is designed for flexibility, making it ideal for various uses such as a guest suite, home office, or recreational space. Large windows and French doors allow natural light to flood the room, creating a bright and airy atmosphere. The wooden flooring complements the exposed beams, adding to the cohesive design that emphasises natural materials. The room features distinct zones for living, dining, and working, making it a multifunctional space that caters to diverse needs. Modern lighting fixtures and tasteful decor blend seamlessly with the traditional elements, ensuring a comfortable and stylish environment. This room above the oak framed outbuilding is a perfect example of how traditional design can meet contemporary needs. Its combination of rustic appeal and modern amenities makes it a valuable addition to any property, enhancing both its functionality and aesthetic appeal.

Many garden rooms are a simple box, but this project had to be different because of the odd shape of the garden. We combined the geometry with a raw exposed timber structure to create an interesting garden office space. The oversized stud work is clad in seared larch cladding on the outside with 170mm of insulation ans plywood internal wall lining. The internal part of the timber studs projects one foot into the space creating a shelving system and table cantilever from the structure allowing for a flexible and functional space. Large glass sliding panels frame the garden with a central skylight capping the vaulted roof. Externally a green sedum room blends the structure into the mature garden.
