flauraA young family desired the perfect garden to grow alongside their rural lives in Surrey’s countryside. We designed a meaningful space for our clients to journey through their garden and reconnect with the native woodland encompassing their home. We felt it was important to perforate the boundary, to open up the scenic views and incorporate the borrowed landscape.
Southeast Studios Inc.Sweet Bottom Plantation - No. 13 The Battery
This is one of two Charleston style homes that Greg Mix designed in the Sweet Bottom Plantation subdivision north of Atlanta in Duluth, Georgia.
This red brick home is a reproduction of number 13 on The Battery, right on Charleston Bay. However in this case the plan has been flipped and laid out inside to suit the modern lifestyle. As you can see in the photos it contains a double spiral stairway. The three car garage is on the ground floor as well as the front entry, study, guest room and a pool bath which exist directly onto the pool area in the back yard. The main living areas are on the next level up or the first floor. This level includes the family room, living room, dining room, breakfast room and kitchen. The third level or second floor contains the master suite and two additional bedrooms.
The current owners have furnished the house beautifully and built private Charleston style gardens to the side and rear.
Luxury Garden DesignThe garden boasts four raised beds that are carefully crafted from oak, providing a sturdy and durable setting for vegetables to grow. A quaint potting shed is also present, offering a cosy space for the garden enthusiast to store their tools and equipment. The beautiful espalier fruit trees add to the charm of the garden, while the hazel arches create a picturesque view that is sure to captivate anyone's attention. The tongue and groove fencing that encloses the garden provides a safe and secure environment for the plants to thrive.
Sudbury Design GroupLocated in one on the country’s most desirable vacation destinations, this vacation home blends seamlessly into the natural landscape of this unique location. The property includes a crushed stone entry drive with cobble accents, guest house, tennis court, swimming pool with stone deck, pool house with exterior fireplace for those cool summer eves, putting green, lush gardens, and a meandering boardwalk access through the dunes to the beautiful sandy beach.

The London Gardener LtdWe worked with Darren Oldfield Architects and Imperfect Interiors as part of a period house renovation. Our clients wanted a low maintenance garden that they could use all year round. We used pleached trees, installed an bespoke oak pergola and planted a mix of evergreens and multi-stems plants to soften the structures and give the garden privacy. We were asked to disguise the gym/office and this was done by painting it a dark grey green so that it became hidden and part of the garden.

lilydesignA new home needs some time for the landscape to mature, however this house backs onto a greenbelt, so the clients have nature at their door step. An avid gardener and nature lover, this client asked for a lap pool, outdoor shower, patio area, veggie garden and outdoor kitchen area. She received everything plus a water feature and a small pool house with a powder room. Materials include natural stone walls & raised planter, sand-etch concrete and patio slab inlays. Metal containers are used for the veggie garden in the side yard.

As the garden is very much on display from the kitchen it needed to feel like a natural extension of the internal living space and a pleasure to look out onto all year round.
We expect so much from gardens of this size so they need to be hard working spaces. To include all that was requested takes balance in the composition and a considered design, less is more.
The garden will effectively be broken down into dining, relaxing, play areas for the kids and a great planting scheme, of course!
In smaller gardens you want to make the biggest impact with the planting with bold planting beds, which is exactly what we can do in this space, the beds will be full of lush evergreen ferns with pockets of flowering perennials.

Art Garden DesignThis Berkeley property had overgrown vines, concaving fences, rotted deck, dead lawn, broken concrete, and poor drainage. After removing about 30 yards of soil from this lot, we were able to begin leveling and sculpting the landscape. We installed new concrete pathways, synthetic lawn, custom swing and arbor, Thermory wood decking with metal railings, paver patio with masonry stone wall seating, and stone mosaic water feature with stainless steel wire to match. Many elements tied together nicely in this modern Berkeley backyard.
