This major remodel and addition set out to take full advantage of the incredible view and create a clear connection to both the front and rear yards. The clients really wanted a pool and a home that they could enjoy with their kids and take full advantage of the beautiful climate that Southern California has to offer. The existing front yard was completely given to the street, so privatizing the front yard with new landscaping and a low wall created an opportunity to connect the home to a private front yard. Upon entering the home a large staircase blocked the view through to the ocean so removing that space blocker opened up the view and created a large great room.
Indoor outdoor living was achieved through the usage of large sliding doors which allow that seamless connection to the patio space that overlooks a new pool and view to the ocean. A large garden is rare so a new pool and bocce ball court were integrated to encourage the outdoor active lifestyle that the clients love.
The clients love to travel and wanted display shelving and wall space to display the art they had collected all around the world. A natural material palette gives a warmth and texture to the modern design that creates a feeling that the home is lived in. Though a subtle change from the street, upon entering the front door the home opens up through the layers of space to a new lease on life with this remodel.

SKM Architects LtdOne of our most remarkable transformations, this remains a stunning property in a very prominent location on the street scene. The house previously was very dated but with a large footprint to work with. The footprint was extended again by about 50%, in order to accommodate effectively two families. Our client was willing to take a risk and go for a contemporary design that pushed the boundaries of what many others would feel comfortable with. We were able to explore materials, glazing and the overall form of the proposal to such an extent that the cladding manufacturers even used this project as a case study.
The proposal contains a cinema room, dedicated playroom and a vast living space leading to the orangery. The children’s bedrooms were all customised by way of hand-painted murals in individual themes.

It features a large beamed great room with fireplace and built-ins, a gorgeous gourmet kitchen with wet bar and working pantry, and a private study for those work-at-home days. A large first floor master suite features water views and a beautiful marble tile bath. The home is an entertainer's dream with large lanai, outdoor kitchen, pool, boat dock, upstairs game room with another wet bar and a balcony to take in those views. Four additional bedrooms including a first floor guest suite round out the home.
Mi DecorAt this front exterior, I had to burn all external coating from the ladders due to paint failure. New paint and coating were applied by brush and roll in the white gloss system.

Le choix de nos clients s’est porté sur une cuisine séparée équipée d’une verrière et d’une porte atelier permettant de conserver perspective et volumes.
Un effort tout particulier a été apporté à l’aspect fonctionnel et pratique. Une grande entrée avec rangements sur-mesure a été imaginée afin de rythmer l’arrivée à la maison. Une bibliothèque en chêne a été conçue dans le coin jour pour apporter une touche de décoration et des rangements. Un grand cellier accueille une zone de stockage, de mêmes que les placards intégrés dans les chambres et les deux espaces dressing.
Côté extérieur, parement en pierres, menuiseries gris clair RAL7035, mur rideau, tuiles plates gris pâle, décrochés de toiture et de façades donnent à cette réalisation un rendu architectural.

We introduced a new brick at ground floor, with off white render at first floor and soldier course brick detailing. All finished off with a new natural slate roof and oak frame porch around the new front entrance.

From the playroom window seat on the upper level, children (and adults) can climb onto a play-net suspended over the dining table.
The mezzanine library structure hangs from the roof apex with steel structure exposed, a place to relax or work with garden views and light. More on this - the built-in library joinery becomes part of the architecture as a storage wall and transforms into a gorgeous place to work looking out to the trees. There is also a sofa under large skylights to chill and read.
The kitchen and dining space has a Z-shaped double height space running through it with a full height pantry storage wall, large window seat and exposed brickwork running from inside to outside. The windows have slim frames and also stack fully for a fully indoor outdoor feel.
