Catering to the outdoor beach lifestyle, the house is complete with a screened porch with fieldstone fireplace, a granite patio with outdoor barbeque kitchen, spectacular landscaping and fieldstone walls with multiple areas of landscape lighting for dramatic effect at night, a gunite pool with waterfall spa and a custom water fountain and hammock, both attached and resting from hand carved reclaimed municipal building steps.

The home’s design grew organically by the crossing of water, influenced by a nearby bridge linking the tree-lined property to the surrounding golf course. The design was also inspired by the Mid-Century architecture of Florida’s Golden Beach and the revival of the idioms associated with that movement. Exploring the intersection of architecture and place and context and creativity, the project’s sensitivity to the surrounding environment is expressed with a proliferate use of natural elements — like stacked white stone facades and support columns — further smudging the edges between exterior and interior. Water surrounds the home; a koi pond and trickling fountains create a soothing entry. Inside, expansive plate glass walls and windows welcome the outdoors. Full-length windows double as folding partition doors and when peeled back, open the living room to the lanai, and pool deck while simultaneously providing a bridge between indoor and outdoor living. An open stair floats to a second floor catwalk that links north and south bedroom wings, and both contribute to the soaring volume of the interior spaces.

the owners and builders did a nice job of selecting trims and fretwork, and although not my style, does attract a lot of attention. the light lemon colour works well with white and the predominant greenscape surrounds.

A fully glazed room with classical columns was designed to be used as a sitting room and it features bi-fold doors to the garden area. A Victorian semi-detached house in Wimbledon has been remodelled and transformed into a modern family home, including extensive underpinning and extensions at lower ground floor level in order to form a large open-plan space. Photographer: Nick Smith

This stunning period property in Lichfield, Staffordshire, was transformed with a full set of flush sash uPVC windows featuring delicate astragal bars, paired with a matching heritage-style front door — all finished in a soft pebble grey. The result speaks for itself. The flush sash profile respects the character of the original property while delivering all the benefits of modern uPVC — thermal efficiency, low maintenance and weather performance that the original timber frames simply couldn't match. The pebble grey finish ties the whole frontage together beautifully, complementing the white render and traditional landscaping. A reminder that the right windows don't just perform — they transform.

Das Ensemble aus drei Einfamilienhäusern befindet sich in einem Wohngebiet am Starnberger See und wurde mittels verschieden angeordneten Rundungselementen bewusst als Ensemble-Einheit konzipiert. Final wurde leider nur das mittlere Gebäude mit diesem Gestaltungselement umgesetzt. Gerundete Elemente an Balkonen, Garagenvordächern, Unterständen, etc. sollten dem klassischen Look eines Einfamilienhauses entgegengesetzt werden. Umgesetzt wurde dies mittels einer vorvergrauten Holzverschalung, die dem Ganzen einen einheitlichen Charakter verleiht. Die vorgelagerten Rundelemente dienen zudem als passiver Sonnenschutz und ermöglichen eine gewissen Grad an Intimität durch die entstehenden Rücksprünge und Raumnischen. Auch hier wird ein kfW-Standard über eine optimal gedämmte Gebäudehülle, Wärmepumpe und PV-Anlage erreicht.
