Custom railing made and installed on stairway landing of 3rd floor bedroom:
Side note: I contracted with this homeowner to install a railing in this spot. She left me the pieces consisting of big box stair parts and they were ugly as hell.
Since she was away for the winter, I had time and work area to do it my way. I turned the spindles myself, copying the style of the spindles elsewhere in the house, matched the top of the half wall (already there) by using hard maple for the rails, and custom built the newel post boxes and put maple caps on them. It cost me more in material (& time), but the end result is priceless. Needless to say Owner was very very impressed, and gave me future work.
