Our process page

Why did we decide to make the space feel smaller? ? We are nearing the completion of a residential refurbishment project in North London. Our clients wanted to remove the raised platform and sunken lounge on this 70's style home to maximise the flow on the ground floor. The space felt cavernous when we lowered the floor. To reintroduce the sense of domestic intimacy (with a 70's touch) without reducing the room's height, we compressed the space by creating a timber ceiling. It is not only the darker boards that contribute to the perception that the ceiling is closer to the floor. The boarding was carefully selected and detailed so that you read each panel and its grain. It acts as a reference point and provides a human scale. The living area immediately felt more homely when we completed the new ceiling. These simple solutions are essential for us to define the mood of the space. Do you evoke an emotional response in your day-to-day activities?
