We knocked out the walls between the kitchen and dining room and between the dining room and the living room, then installed wide knee walls. The architect called for 14"-wide columns for support, so we cut exterior concrete columns down to size and designed them for the interior. The result is an open feel between the three rooms while still delineating boundaries.
We finished the wood floors with an ebony finish to capture the traditional DC style.
The kitchen remodel called for custom poplar wood kitchen cabinets with inlay doors built to specifications, primed with lacquer primer and hand-brushed with a semigloss oil paint. We installed a new marble countertop with grey veins and white subway tile for backsplashes. We also installed all-new appliances selected by the client, including a Wolf commercial gas range and a subzero refrigerator.
