Rural House, Spring Valley
In keeping with passive solar principles, the single level concrete floor slab provides the thermal mass for free solar heating and cooling. A combination of Northern orientation and large north facing windows, with eaves angled to allow the sun into the home in winter allow warmth into the home during the day and keep the home warm at night.
In summer the reverse happens. With the sun’s angle much higher the wide overhanging roof lines prevent the sun from reaching the main concrete floor slab, helping to keep the home cool throughout both day and night.
