Storage Beyond the Norm!

Here's a concept I have been using since my earliest days in kitchen design. The concept of a scullery comes from the British where they used a room between the outside and the kitchen to do the initial messy stuff of butchering game, etc. I have evolved it into a room by the kitchen where, in this case, the cook likes to clean off the guest's dinner dishes on to a tea cart, then moves them into the scullery and shuts the doors. Her guests no longer jump up and offer to "help do the dishes." (She used to cringe at the thought of them handling her china!) The other advantage of the scullery is that it has its own ventilation system. This means broiling or self-cleaning or the pie filling that spills over no longer sends smoke and smell throughout the main floor (or more). She slides the doors shut and turns on the exhaust fan! This scullery even has its own dishwasher. Beyond that, it is the home's pantry. To see more of this kitchen, go to http://www.spaceplanner.com/North_Bend_Kitchen_With_Scullery.html.
