Period living room
really need some inspiration for my living room/guest room. It’s been like this for over a year as i really don’t know where to start! what To put either side of fireplace? What colour should the furniture be? Dark grey? Black? Or dark oak to match the sofa legs? Shutters or Roman blinds? Initially wanted to keep it neutral with different shades of grey but now thinking it needs a pop of colour. What do you all think?

Sofa i pangfarve - go eller no go?
Kommentarer (6)Det ser rigtig godt ud på billeder, men så stort et møbel i pangfarve vil man højst sandsynligt hurtigt blive træt af og en sofa er ikke et billigt møbel, så man vil ikke bare kunne skifte den ud. Jeg ville gå efter neutrale farver, når det kommer til møbler som man skal have længe og istedet gøre brug af farverige billeder eller pyntegenstande til at pifte rummet op med :)...Se flereHvilken af disse to lamper skal jeg vælge til min nye lejlighed?
Kommentarer (7)I de gamle dage var alle (gløde)lamper varme (bogstaveligt og lysmæssigt). I dag LED-teknologien giver mulighed for både at regulere farvetemperatur og lysstyrke og dermed skabe smukt stemningslys til enhver situation: varmt lys giver hygge, kold lys aktiverer og giver energi. Til det "varme hjem" vil jeg anbefale en kobberlampe der "varmer" selv når lampen ikke er tænd. Tjek marinov.dk - locus bipes kobber, håber I kan lide det :-)...Se flereRoser eller tulipaner?

Kommentarer (16)Vi fik nyt køkken sidste år, og der valgte vi en træbordplade (eg), netop fordi den giver varme til rummet. Derudover var den billig selvom vi bestilte den i en ekstra dyb variant (dette for at underskabe kunne flyttes ud, og derfor er ugenerede af gas/vand-rør). Og så var den medgørlig, så vi nemt selv kunne lave udskæringer, og få en bordplade der passede 100% til alle de skæve rør og vinkler der kan være i en lidt ældre lejlighed. Mht. til upkeep, er det altså slet ikke så galt. Vi bruger bare IKEA's bordolie, og giver den engang hvert halve år max - og det er hverken svært eller tidskrævende. I hverdagen er vi påpasselige med at bruge varmebrikker og skærebræt (ligesom jeg ville med en hvilken som helst type bordplade), og så skal man passe på med at lade våde genstande stå på bordet i længere perioder. Vi har oplevet at der er kommet sorte ringe hvis der f.eks. har stået en våd konservesdåse, men dem har jeg blot skurret væk med en fugtig svamp, og så givet dem lidt olie efterfølgende, og så er de væk. Fordelen ved træbordplader er jo netop at du kan gøre skaden god igen. Vandstænk rundt om vasken har vi ikke rigtig de store problemer med, men vi har også en god gedigen vask (denne fra IKEA <3). Alternativt kunne en vask med afsætningplads være en god idé... Jeg ved i øvrigt at man kan få noget nano-cover til træbordplader som skulle gøre den vandavisende, men jeg har ikke selv erfaring med det. Fordelen ved træbordplader er altså at de er lette at installere og customize og er billige og nemme at holde pæne - også når skaden er sket. Ulempen er at der er lidt vedligeholdelse. Hvis man f.eks. vælger en stenbordplade er den stort set vedligeholdelsesfri, men så er den til gengæld dyrere og en ond makker at installere. Andre materialer er stål og akryl , som er mere hårdføre overfor langvaring vandpåvirkning end træ, men mindre overfor ridser, og laminat som nok er den sarteste af dem alle ifht. ridser og vandpåvirkning, men til gengæld er billig....Se flere- PRO

Turquoise or mustard, even both together work well with grey.
I too love the calmness of the room, so I think less is more. I'd go for a rug like this one
Has the grey, but the taupe and the turquoise add a little warmth. If you don't like that one, then something like these could work also
or for a more modern look, this one:-

For your windows i'd go with quality rough silk roman blinds with long dramatic curtains either side.

6 år sidenIt's a beautiful space. What exactly are you going to use the room for? When you say guest room do you mean occasional bedroom or formal sitting room? Will there be a TV? Will you use the fire? I would consider adding a mirror above the fireplace, matching sideboards either side of it with matching vase/plant/lamp etc to add interest and symmetry. Then a coffee table (I think the dark wood would work well) and curtains. I would also add some art to the wall.

6 år sidenLovely room. I like the fabric on the right for blinds. You could place a small sideboard, chest of drawers, co sole table on either side of the fireplace. Either matching mirrors above those and a painting on the mantle, or the other way around. Paintings on the sides (not matching though) and a mirror on the chimney breast.
Adding pattern would liven it up. I like the neutral colour scheme, but you could add a little bit of colour if you like. A touch of black always works well. And some cushions.

6 år sidenThe grey room is lovely (as is the other!). I agree with the other comments, it just needs accessorising. I'd try pulling the sofa out of the bay and just pull the sofa opposite the fire away from the wall a few inches. Would you consider orange as an accent colour? I think the patterned material would work for a Roman blind, have you considered adding a pelmet ( but in a plain material not as shown in the pic!). I'd definitely add plants and flowers. The coffee and console tables are actually in wenge, a couple of piles of books would add warmth on the lower shelf with lamps on the console (Pooky have some nice shades). A soft throw draped over the arm of the sofa would also look great. I'd go for the same style mirror as the other room. You definitely need art but it's hard to choose art for someone as it's so personal. A floor lamp next to the sofa opposite the fire would also add some height

6 år sidenI don't think there's too much duck egg in the other room but I'd add an accent colour, I think coral would work well and flow with the orange. The coral cushion is also from Oka and I think the gold will lift the room. The weathered oak tray table is also from there which should work with your existing furniture. As with the other room I think it just needs accessorising with art, lamps, plant etc. A brass floor lamp would work in here

Add some pops of colour. Love the grey walls, but why not add jewel coloured sofas and a chandelier?

6 år sidenPerhaps if you would like to maximise space and heat efficiency, an angled bay window radiator may work behind the sofa. There are many styles available that would be to be custom designed for the particular space including column or a standard double pane radiator like the one below we recently fabricated.

6 år sidenWhat a lovely space! I'd definitely pull the sofas away from the wall, and add some art and maybe cabinets either side of the fireplace to create symmetry. Add a nice rug & coffee table and I think that the room will feel much more 'put-together' and cosy. As far as pops of colour go, I'd keep it to the accessories - they are much easier and less expensive to replace if you change your mind 2 years later -cushions, vases, artwork etc are ideal for this.

6 år sidenLove the space and agree with many of the comments above - it lends itself to something dramatic and opulent like mirrored or black furniture. It may not be your thing but oriental style furniture would work perfectly. I'd probably stick with new, clean lined black lacquer rather than introduce antiques but there is plenty of choice - one of our ottomans, for example, would be great next to the fireplace and has the advantage of adding extra seating as well as storage.

6 år sidenFrom a lighting perspective you need some occasional lighting either side of the fireplace as you don't appear to have any wall lights. I would suggest something with a bit of texture and style - perhaps some crystal to link with your central pendant or a striking design piece. here are some of my suggestions:

6 år sidenSo I thought I would update you all on the progress for this room. Its still not complete, but managing as much as I can with 2 small children!
I have taken all your suggestions on board. Just wanted some help re: coffee table. The one in the picture is my old coffee table and Im not keen on keeping it. I was thinking of an ottoman style table in the grey similar to sofas but dressed with a deep blue throw and pretty silver tray/accessories. What do you all think? I have attached photo of cushions to give you all an idea of colour. I will definitely be adding more blue at some point in the form of art and accessories.

6 år sidenIt's looking great. It looks as if you're going for a transitional look? They're not cheap :( but I thought this art over each console table? (They are the same size!). I'd maybe look at an ottoman like this with a shelf for books. I can find a rectangular one but not the right colour ATM.. I probably wouldn't add any more grey though personally . It looks as if a tall palm could go to the left of the sofa in the bay?
