The toys and furniture in this playroom are scaled to fit the average child, and the couch may seem small compared to a sectional couch, but is larger than a chair for a child. The furnishings are scaled to fit children, so they can feel more comfortable in a chair their size. To adults, pieces in this room appear small, but to kids the furniture and toys are just their size.
Picture shows Human Scale, since the baby is small compared to the crib and the plant is small compared to the crib. This scale is used to refer to the relative size of an object in relation to the human body or other object. So, a crib is designed to fit a baby, which is pictured, because that's what the purpose of it is. And, the crib may seem small compared to a twin bed, but in this photo, it's still larger than a plant. Plus, since the crib is a small piece of furniture, everything else is small as well.
Picture shows Appropriate use of Scale, since the standard countertop height and chair widths are scaled to fit the average person, as well as everything in the space appears to scale. The furnishings are scaled to the space they occupy, being visually appealing, with the room not appearing to tight. Additionally, the furnishings are in scale with one another, with a large stove and large oven, the same sized barstools, and a large fridge. If there was a small fridge, that wouldn't go well with a big stove. Plus, the adults who are going to be using the kitchen need to have furniture that will be in scale with them and make them feel comfortable. So, adults would feel more comfortable in average-sized barstools than ones that are small built for children.
Picture shows Appropriate use of Scale, since the relative size of the door is correct in relation to the other objects. The door is designed to fit an average human being inside, and may be a small door compared to other front doors, but is still larger than other doors (like those throughout the house). It is visually appealing since it's scaled to the space it's occupying. The door isn't too small or too big for the house, and looks just right, making it appropriate.
Picture shows Inappropriate Scale, since the sofa is over-sixed compared the deck space there is. This room now seems unbalanced with this large piece of furniture, and quite a small coffee table. I think it would have looked better with separate couches and some chairs instead of this long, connected couch. I think this space just looks off.
Picture shows Disproportion, since there seems to be more objects than the space given for them. To me, it doesn't appear that the accessories and objects with the shelving and counterspace are proportionate. Additionally, the table in the middle of this kitchen seems to big for this space, since I question if the fridge can even open fully. Plus, the shelving on the wall is in an odd ratio, from shelving on the left wall compared to the right. I expected to see a ratio more like 2:3 and 5:8, which is more effective. Overall, it seems cluttered and I think the space could be used more correctly and proportionately.
