We knew we wanted to open up the kitchen, add an island and create an indoor/outdoor feel and accessibility to the backyard patio. “My husband and I were pretty intimidated when we initially started looking around for help with our kitchen design because it seemed like we wouldn't be taken seriously since we're not working with a mansion. We just started growing our family and are fixing up a modest two bedroom so we wanted to keep costs minimal while maximizing our space. Of all the contacts we made, Aaron was the only one willing to work with our modest budget; he did so with complete understanding and enthusiasm and we were blown away by his compassion to help out. Working with him was very easy as most our correspondence was via email and he was always accommodating of any concerns or questions we had. I highly recommend Aaron Shimizu for his approach with first-timers and for solving what seemed like an insurmountable game of Tetris with our galley kitchen.”

“Jimmy did an outstanding job with the design and architectural plans for my 12,000 sq ft home here in Hawaii. Although the project took much longer to get to the build stage (not at any fault Jimmy's), he stuck with his original quote and time frames for billing. We had many meetings together during the design and build phase and made all necessary changes to the plans along the process. And as a result our home won the AIA Peoples Choice Award and a Merit Award with the BIA. The fees i paid were reasonable and the end result was outstanding.”

“I had a great time with John at Lapis Design Partners. He worked with me from the very first meeting to the final walk through process of my house located at Kahala neighborhood in Honolulu. He spent a great deal of his time into this project since I was not in full time residence during the process. We communicate over email, phone conversation and fax very intensively. He and his partner, Susan as a professional long-time interior designer always respected my views and wishes toward this dream house. I enjoyed the relationship with John during the process and appreciated very much for his professionalism as an architect and his responsiveness to the job. The results came much more than my expectations. We received one of AIA Honolulu awards. Most importantly, my time during the process was enjoyable ! Highly recommended.”

“I have had the pleasure of knowing Rocky Arnold for 15 years now, and most recently had the pleasure of working with his company to create a ADA-complaint house for my daughter who is in a wheelchair. Rocky was able to take plans provided by my builder, and work to adapt them to make a space that would allow my daughter the most freedom possible. His knowledge and experience was invaluable in making sure all spaces accommodated her needs now and as she grows. We have been in our house 4 years now, and to say our house was life changing for my daughter and my wife and I would be a understatement. My daughter has a level of independence we never thought possible, and Rocky’s designs were perfect. He was very patient throughout the design process and always had a way of taking our concerns and solving them in innovative ways. I’ve referred several of my closest friends to Rocky and Ohana design, and would recommend anyone who needs an architect do the same.”

“Dan was one of three architects interviewed and we found him to be straightforward, open and respected our ideas. He turned our ideas into plans and drawings. During actual building, we hired Dan to supervise the project since we were off- island. Besides being highly creative, he also kept us informed of the project budget and we also found him to be trustworthy. We would surely have him again for our next project.”
