“Lorna has designed a beautiful and practical divider for the kids room in our Stockbridge home. With features such as secret compartments with swivelling covers or open porthole so they can see each other, talk and pass items over. The boys love their new separate “rooms” and the whole thing is designed so it can easily be dismantled and moved without damage to either walls or floor. Delighted with the result and Lorna was a pleasure to work with during the process.”

“We selected Martin and Louise from Urban Creatures to design and manage the build of our house because we liked their portfolio and found that they understood our brief. As a result, the design process of the house did not take long and they provided many good ideas. Obtaining planning permission for our house was quite problematic, but Urban Creatures were very professional in dealing with the planning department. Despite them working to our budget, the quotes from the builders were at least 1/3 above our budget, which led to some changes and omissions. But at least that saved us from a lot of nasty surprises once the building work started. Urban Creatures supervised the whole building process and we had fortnightly meetings with both Urban Creatures and the builder to discuss progress and issues. Again, this was done in a very professional manner. Overall, we are very happy with the service provided by Urban Creatures. We would recommend them to others and would not hesitate to use them again.”

“2B were commissioned to provide concept drawings and take the design to planning approval and subsequent building warrant issue. At all stages they were courteous, kept to appointments made and listened to our requirements. The designs produced were of a high standard and matched with what our expectations were. We wanted a shell provision for an extension and some internal alterations for a full house renovation and they have assisted in other aspects as part of the remit which has helped us tremendously. Would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone”

“I contacted three builders about getting an estimate for a loft conversion and only one got back to me. He recommended a local architect and everything moved swiftly and smoothly from there. The design of the upgrade to my 1850s end terrace cottage grew hands and feet but was never allowed to go crazy because of the sensible heads in charge. The joiner/builder and architect complemented each other and I am left with a property, the beauty of which was summed up in one question put to me by the joiner. "Is there anything you would change?" I answered that there is nothing I would change. Everybody who has been here since has complemented the design. Early on the knowledge and experience was evident in abundance from Lucas Dow Design Studios. The vision of an architect is something you pay for. I maintain my position - I would not change anything. The inside, which is not shown in the photos provided, is the triumph.”

“Groves-Raines Architects have provided Lead Consultancy and Architectural Services to Shetland Amenity Trust on a number of Heritage projects since 2004. These include the conservation of: Hays Dock and associated Store (built c 1820) - project value £1,100,000 Sumburgh Head Lighthouse Buildings (constructed 1821) - project value £5,400,000 Town Hall, Lerwick (constructed 1881) - Project Value £1,600,000 Client satisfaction is an imperative for the Groves-Raines team and when working with contractors, they do demand that works are finished to a very high standard. The Sumburgh Head Project was a great example of collaborative working: client; designers; contractors; etc. which delivered a project of the highest quality within time and under budget. In conclusion Shetland Amenity Trust would very highly recommend Groves-Raines Architects to other clients and will certainly use them again on future projects.”

“From concept, detailed design, achieving council approvals, and oversight and management of our building contractors, EK:JN provided a highly professional service. EK:JN assisted us with cost management delivering our project on budget and provided us with innovative suggestions to deliver us a very modern home which we are very happy living in. “We extended, renovated and altered the ground floor of our rural cottage. Our Architect helped us visualise ideas and consider various alternatives, something we found essential at the pre-contract stage. His patience and attention to our needs at that stage helped us produce the result we wanted in the end. He made suggestions re layout and materials that we might not have otherwise considered. He provided the necessary drawings and plans and liaised with planners, builders and other consultants when required. Once the build got underway, his involvement, as agreed, lessened but he was still available to us, to provide re-assurance, another opinion and technical experience. Our builders were also able to contact him for clarification and advice throughout the project.”
