Our project went quite smoothly, staying on schedule thanks to the fact that my office is in the house and Scott's commitment to providing a foreman. This enabled us to make decisions quickly and address problems promptly. Scott and his crew showed a lot of creativity in meeting our requirement to stay in the house during the renovation, to the extent of setting up a temporary kitchen and shower in the basement. In the end, we only had to be out of the house for about a week. He was also very good about coordinating with our architect and the cabinetmaker that we selected ourselves. Having heard a few horror stories of renovation cost overruns, I think we also did well in this respect. Our final figure was about 10% more than the initial estimate due to the kind of unforeseen issues that can be expected on any such project, along with a few changes that we ordered. The level of detail Scott provides in his constantly updated spreadsheet also helped us to make some decisions that reduced our cost.”

“Jim Basnett of Basnett Design-Build-Remodel, is a builder that we discovered from seeing his sign and trucks in our neighborhood here in Lexington. He did extensive remodeling and addition work on a house on our street. Based upon the work we saw him doing with our neighbor, as well as all of the outstanding reviews on Angie's List, we asked Jim to help us with our own plans. From our first call, Jim was always extremely responsive and receptive, happy to talk to us and guide us. He sent us a list of references - a very long list, I might add, of clients that he worked with in the past - a huge percentage of which are actually continuing clients, meaning clients that are so happy with his work, when they want to do a new project, they call Jim back again. We are going to be leaving Lexington and moving to a nearby town, where we will be tearing down a rundown wreck of a house and building a handicapped accessible ranch in it's place. We had many conversations with Jim about the process. We had not yet bought a property when we first began talking, so he walked us through the steps, ideas, speaking specifically about land drainage, insulation, energy, costs, and countless other details, so that we had an idea of what to look for in a property, and how to proceed with the teardown and new construction. He looked at a few properties for us online, giving his input, and offering to come out to see and assess potential properties for us. Very importantly, he recommended a few realtors to act as buyers agents for us, and we did very happily engage one of them. Ultimately, we ended up not using Jim, but only because we found a different excellent builder (I never knew even one existed, let alone TWO!) who's schedule happened to be open and could begin our project immediately. Timing for us is fairly tight, details not important, so that was a key deciding factor for us. We can't thank him enough for his dedication to us, his invaluable advice, his bestowing to us of an excellent on-point realtor who cares about customer service more than her commission and his big picture view of how being moral, open and honest, is always the best policy.”

“I hired Adams + Beasley to build a built-in dining area off my kitchen (with seating and storage) and a built-in bench off of my entryway. They were incredibly pleasant and professional to work with. Their work was efficient, they were respectful of my home and keeping the jobsite clean and they met every timeline. “Paul Dobler remodeled a 1980’s house in Colorado for us. It was originally built with radiant heat along the center beam of the house, so all of the rooms had walls up to the door headers and no ceilings! He raised the walls up to the open beam roof, tore down and resized 2 bedrooms with pocket doors in the closets and transom windows above the doors. He moved the front wall of the house out 8 feet to expand the living room. Paul also designed a 20 x 20 sun room addition with Structural Insulated Panels. He installed 4” aluminum air tubes embedded in the concrete floor that move air warmed by the tile floor in this south-facing room through the crawl space and connect to the existing heat ducts for added solar gain. He installed an amazing Nanowall 6-panel glass folding door that opens onto a deck that surrounds the room on 3 sides. The sun room is connected to the existing building with glass pocket doors. Paul is an expert at hanging doors. The sun room addition has an upper covered deck accessed by a custom metal stairway. Paul suggested the upper deck to add some outdoor living space and to make the most of the view of Mesa Verde and the LaPlata Mountains. Paul also removed the damaged concrete walkway along the driveway and had new concrete poured on all 4 sides of the house. He designed a new front entry and a back mud room. The finishing touch was stucco on the outside in a Southwest style. Throughout the design process Paul worked diligently to incorporate every detail that was important to us. He used a program integrated with Google Earth that let us “walk through” the house at different times of the day and year. Having him on-site working with the building crew and overseeing the subcontractors was invaluable. He met the challenge of a 50-mile drive to Home Depot and a delivery schedule of “sometime next week” from the local hardware store. We’re very pleased with Paul’s work on our home and would hire him again without hesitation.”
