Bahamian Open House

“At some point during the building process we had three, maybe four locals working on it and, when I explained my door plan, they laughed – and quit. They said they never heard of such a door, it wouldn’t work and they wouldn’t do it and they quit – period. I said fine, I’d do it myself. So they went off to have a bite to eat under the cool of a Gum Elmi tree, which seemed to be the natural thing to do after you quit. After a bit of grumble-talk, which I was unable to hear, they returned and announced that they’d try it my way, but not to blame them if it didn’t work. As soon as the roof was on, they discovered that my …doors provided the coolest and most comfortable place to have their breakfast break, their dinner at noon and their afternoon tea. I refrained from comment and so did they.” Brenda Olde Photography © 2012 Houzz
