HufftThe Curved House is a modern residence with distinctive lines. Conceived in plan as a U-shaped form, this residence features a courtyard that allows for a private retreat to an outdoor pool and a custom fire pit. The master wing flanks one side of this central space while the living spaces, a pool cabana, and a view to an adjacent creek form the remainder of the perimeter.
A signature masonry wall gently curves in two places signifying both the primary entrance and the western wall of the pool cabana. An eclectic and vibrant material palette of brick, Spanish roof tile, Ipe, Western Red Cedar, and various interior finish tiles add to the dramatic expanse of the residence. The client’s interest in suitability is manifested in numerous locations, which include a photovoltaic array on the cabana roof, a geothermal system, radiant floor heating, and a design which provides natural daylighting and views in every room. North and south exposures in this 3000 square foot loft in Tribeca allowed us to line the south facing wall with two guest bedrooms and a 900 sf master suite. The trapezoid shaped plan creates an exaggerated perspective as one looks through the main living space space to the kitchen. The ceilings and columns are stripped to bring the industrial space back to its most elemental state. The blackened steel canopy and blackened steel doors were designed to complement the raw wood and wrought iron columns of the stripped space. Salvaged materials such as reclaimed barn wood for the counters and reclaimed marble slabs in the master bathroom were used to enhance the industrial feel of the space.

Barker O'Donoghue Master BuildersA Platinum LEED Certified home, this 2,400 sq. ft. ground-up house features environmentally-conscious materials and systems throughout including photovoltaic panels, finishes and radiant heating. Features of the comfortable family home include a skylight oculus, glass stair-rail panels, wood ceilings and room dividers, a soaking tub, and a roof deck with panoramic views.
The project development process was collaborative, during which the team worked closely with the architect to design and execute custom construction detailing.

De Meza + ArchitectureTaking the elements of the traditional 1929 bathroom as a spring board, this bathroom’s design asserts that modern interiors can live beautifully within a conventional backdrop. While paying homage to the work-a-day bathroom, the finished room successfully combines modern sophistication and whimsy. The familiar black and white tile clad bathroom was re-envisioned utilizing a custom mosaic tile, updated fixtures and fittings, an unexpected color palette, state of the art light fixtures and bold modern art. The original dressing area closets, given a face lift with new finish and hardware, were the inspiration for the new custom vanity - modern in concept, but incorporating the grid detail found in the original casework.
David Wilkes BuildersThis major renovation of a bathroom and surrounding area resulted in a large, spa-like space. Rich, warm colors in tile and wood create a luxurious feel. Lavatories and the sculptural tub in pristine white provide a sharp contrast in the color palette. With seating areas and glowing, mod ceiling lights, this space could just as well serve as a chic setting for champagne and caviar.
