Studio 30 ArchitectsA contemporary refurbishment and extension of a Locally Listed mid-terraced Victorian house located within the East Canonbury Conservation Area.
This proposal secured planning permission to remodel and extend the lower ground floor of this mid-terrace property. Through a joint application with the adjoining neighbour to ensure that the symmetry and balance of the terrace is maintained, the house was also extended at 1st floor level. The lower ground floor now opens up to the rear garden while the glass roof ensures that daylight enters the heart of the house.
June Scott DesignRock outcroppings make a striking background for new lounge areas in this compact Los Angeles hillside garden. Working with the attributes of the site, we added native plants to drape over the stone, and converted hollowed stone planters into a firepit and water feature. New built-in seating and a cozy hammock complete the relaxing space, and dramatic lighting makes it come alive at night.

Neptune's Water GardensInspired by native limestone waterfall, and designed to naturally blend into the landscape but make a huge impression and impact, this pondless waterfall built in the loess hills of Western Iowa is a signature project and an absolute stunner. Its placement on the hillside across the driveway for the house provided a perfect setting to make a dramatic impact. The variety of small and large waterfalls helps provide scale and interest, along with making different sounds as the water crashes over the rocks to fill the air with a fabulous ambiance. The character of the weathered limestone helps the feature appear seamless and as if it is naturally eroding out of the hillside. A variety of evergreens punctuate the landscape, and perennial natives and grasses blend into the native prairie grass establish beyond the waterfall. This waterfall feature's Aquascape products and LED lighting. Built to run in all four seasons, but with the ease of being shut of for vacations and quickly started upon returning with no need to fill the reservoir and with no hassle. Running the feature on a timer and the addition of an IonGen helps keep this feature free from algae. A similar project built in the Omaha Metro Area would have a budget around $30,000 and would take 2-3 weeks to create.

Bianchi DesignThe 25-by-15-foot reverse vanishing edge pool echoes the trapezoidal shape of the waterfeature and seat walls in the forecourt, while the leading-edge overflow reinforces the feminine curve of the seat walls introduced as one first experienced the home's front entry. The bold curve intentionally imparts a sensuous line to the otherwise masculine, angular framework. The planter walls behind the pool are cantilevered by 4" and create a sleek and distinct shadow line that underscores their form, levitating them above the water.

During the Summer annual and tropical planters are placed in and around this feature to help animate it.

We organized the casitas and main house of this hacienda around a colonnade-lined courtyard. Walking from the parking court through the exterior wood doors and stepping into the courtyard has the effect of slowing time.
The hand carved stone fountain in the center is a replica of one in Mexico.
Viewed from this site on Seco Creek near Utopia, the surrounding tree-covered hills turn a deep blue-green in the distance.
