Every day feels like a celebration in this stylish design that features a main level floor plan perfect for both entertaining and convenient one-level living. The distinctive transitional exterior welcomes friends and family with interesting peaked rooflines, stone pillars, stucco details and a symmetrical bank of windows. A three-car garage and custom details throughout give this compact home the appeal and amenities of a much-larger design and are a nod to the Craftsman and Mediterranean designs that influenced this updated architectural gem. A custom wood entry with sidelights match the triple transom windows featured throughout the house and echo the trim and features seen in the spacious three-car garage. While concentrated on one main floor and a lower level, there is no shortage of living and entertaining space inside. The main level includes more than 2,100 square feet, with a roomy 31 by 18-foot living room and kitchen combination off the central foyer that’s perfect for hosting parties or family holidays. The left side of the floor plan includes a 10 by 14-foot dining room, a laundry and a guest bedroom with bath. This cottage distinguishes itself in American style by its exterior round gallery which beautifully encircles the front corner turret, thus tying the garage to the house.
The main level is appointed with a living room separated from the dining room by a two-sided fireplace, a generous kitchen and casual breakfast area, a half-bath and a home office in the turret. On the second level, no space is wasted. The master suite includes a walk-in closet and spa-style bathroom in the turret. Two additional bedrooms share a Jack-and-Jill bathroom and a laundry room is on this level for easy access from all of the bedrooms.
The lateral entry to the garage includes an architectural window detail which contributes greatly to the curb appeal of this model.

This detached Victorian house was extended to accommodate the needs of a young family with three small children.
The programme was organized into two distinctive structures: the larger and higher volume is placed at the back of the house to face the garden and make the best use of the south orientation and to accommodate a large Family Room open to the new Kitchen. A longer and thinner volume, only 1.15m wide, stands to the western side of the house and accommodates a Toilet, a Utility and a dining booth facing the Family Room. All the functions that are housed in the secondary volume have direct access either from the original house or the rear extension, thus generating a hierarchy of served and servant volumes, a relationship that is homogeneous to that between the house and the extension.
The timber structures, while distinctive in their proportions, are connected by a shallow volume that doubles as a bench to create an architectural continuum and to emphasize the effect of a secondary volume wrapped around a primary one.
While the extension makes use of a modern idiom, so that it is clearly distinguished from the original house and so that the history of its development becomes immediately apparent, the size of the red cedar cladding boards, left untreated to allow a natural silvering process, matches that of the Victorian brickwork to bind house and extension together.
As the budget did not make possible the use a bespoke profile, an off-the-shelf board was selected and further grooved at mid point to recreate the brick pattern of the façade.
A tall and slender pivoting door, positioned at the boundary between the original house and the new intervention, allows a direct view of the garden from the front of the house and facilitates an innovative relationship with the outside.

The most impressive aspect of this build was how all the sub trades worked together to complete the work in time. The designer’s plans were exhaustive and detailed, which helped with scope of works, helping establish everyone’s role and being able to complete in a timely fashion.

Bathrooms are all tiled with modern porcelain and glass tiles featuring niches and in-wall cabinetry for candles and other bathroom accessories. The vaulted great room features an overlooking balcony with wrought iron railing and a large fireplace wrapped in stone quarried nearby.
