Alair Homes WinnipegOur client's family immigrated from the tropical island of Mauritius just off the coast of Madagascar. They wanted to bring in elements of their culture while taking advantage of the natural light of their walkout basement. With the creativity of Lisa Clark's design and the craftsmanship of our trade network, we were able to create a functional and fashionable space for their family.
Innovative Design BuildOur clients wanted a space to gather with friends and family for the children to play. There were 13 support posts that we had to work around. The awkward placement of the posts made the design a challenge. We created a floor plan to incorporate the 13 posts into special features including a built in wine fridge, custom shelving, and a playhouse. Now, some of the most challenging issues add character and a custom feel to the space. In addition to the large gathering areas, we finished out a charming powder room with a blue vanity, round mirror and brass fixtures.
Just BasementsThere is no shortage of character and charm in this basement! Incorporating colour and pattern within this space was important in creating an appealing atmosphere for this family. The mid tone hardwood floor and complementary ceiling paint detail act as grounding elements. The lighter wall colour is the perfect subtle backdrop to the tropical inspired wall paper in this music space.
Mark Brand ArchitectureFor our client, who had previous experience working with architects, we enlarged, completely gutted and remodeled this Twin Peaks diamond in the rough. The top floor had a rear-sloping ceiling that cut off the amazing view, so our first task was to raise the roof so the great room had a uniformly high ceiling. Clerestory windows bring in light from all directions. In addition, we removed walls, combined rooms, and installed floor-to-ceiling, wall-to-wall sliding doors in sleek black aluminum at each floor to create generous rooms with expansive views. At the basement, we created a full-floor art studio flooded with light and with an en-suite bathroom for the artist-owner. New exterior decks, stairs and glass railings create outdoor living opportunities at three of the four levels. We designed modern open-riser stairs with glass railings to replace the existing cramped interior stairs. The kitchen features a 16 foot long island which also functions as a dining table. We designed a custom wall-to-wall bookcase in the family room as well as three sleek tiled fireplaces with integrated bookcases. The bathrooms are entirely new and feature floating vanities and a modern freestanding tub in the master. Clean detailing and luxurious, contemporary finishes complete the look.
Boyce Design + BuildExpertly built, with meticulous attention to every detail, this custom basement renovation is truly an extension of the home. The living spaces flow seamlessly throughout, creating plenty of areas for guests to mingle or relax. The central living area includes a gorgeous family room with plenty of comfortable seating and a large flat screen TV flanked by custom shaker cabinets and floating shelves in Iron Ore by Sherwin Williams. The neutral shades of white, gray, and black in the Quartz countertops compliment the Stikwood reclaimed wood accent wall adding a touch of warmth to this inviting space.
