This Beach beauty was long overdue for some attention. BE Landscape Design elongated the patio stairs, capping them with Montauk Blue tile and stacked stone. Antique black cobblestone was used for the new entrance walkway. Circular seating, a bubbling fountain, and raised veggie boxes have transformed this small front yard into a hub for relaxation and neighborhood visits.

Perennial Geraniums, Autumn Bride Heuchera, Carex pennsylvanica were planted in massed drifts along this hillside. Vardar Valley Boxwood and Otto Luyken Laurel are used to add some height and evergreen foliage to the planting. The wide, serpentine sandstone slab staircase with generous sized landings are used to create a beautiful walk to the water.

South Cove Residence Shelburne, Vermont This 15 acre site is located on the southern end of historic Shelburne Farms, a property originally designed by Frederick Law Olmstead for the Vanderbilt / Webb family. The site design attempts to soften the formal, classical character of the house with a minimal approach to the landscape. The stone and wood house is sited to enjoy both the southern and westerly views while integrating within the rolling agrarian landscape. The design creates a series of outdoor spaces which through classic geometry fade away into the more rugged lakeshore. A simple, yet elegant bluestone terrace bordered by perennials and a low stonewall, creates a space for entertaining on the south side of the house. Large trees of 8" and 10" caliper were planted to add a feeling of maturity to the landscape while creating a sense of intimate scale. Photo Credit: Westphalen Photography

This landscape garden won the 2014 Landscape Victoria Awards for “Plants In the Landscape”. With its natural Stingy Bark twisted trees, the design highlights and enhances these beautiful sculptural trees. The plants are the landscape, attracting wildlife and frogs, with evidence of children climbing and playing in this space. The use of north facing sun has been harnessed in the court yard close to the house, offering a completely different micro-climate, and protection from the southerly breeze. This landscape garden was in the Open Gardens Australia for a special twilight event in January 2014 & 2015. With features such as decking, stonewalls and plantings that are drought hardy and indigenous. Monies raised from these garden openings were donated to the Anglesea CFA. Plants in Landscape Award –Landscape Victoria Judge, Bryan Rankin- Lifetime Member said… “WOW! This is an exceptional garden. The plants in this garden are the landscape. The existing trees have been made features in the overall landscape, and new plantings have been done to compliment and further highlight the existing trees. The use of native plants in a structured manner has worked really well, and the retention of an undisturbed strip of indigenous vegetation has been sensitively incorporated into the landscape. It was also great to see that this was a space that was explored and utilised by the whole family.” Extra information Design by Sinatra Murphy and Peter Shaw Photos by Caitlin Mills and Simone Shaw

I was employed to design and install new planting in the existing raised beds that would withstand the full sun, strong winds and salt that come hand in hand with being 500mm away from the Ocean. This planting is predominantly looked at from inside the house so also needed to be colourful and eye catching. Had the budget have stretched we would have also limewashed the walls, both retianing and the back.
