this project began with an dilapidated site with no landscape. The large front yard was unusable for this family with 2 young boys. the inspiration was to create a clean modern space but with ample room for the children to have practical outdoor play areas. the anchor of the project was to use a large 2 ton rock, already purchased by the owner, and create a center piece. the rock was converted into a water feature and the space was developed into a meditative seating pit wrapped in corten steel. the remaining areas were developed as retaining / seat walls bordering the open lawn play areas. modern railings & fence were designed to wrap the upper patio and perimeter fence. landscape lighting provide enough light for safety and mood.

The clients had just bought the home and loved the inside but not the outside. They did not want the formal setting with Greek busts. Since remodeling the old pool would have restricted the new, they had it removed so they could start from scratch. Their favorite setting was much more organic with a cabana, fireplace, and an outdoor kitchen. The house needed an addition with an entertainment media room, cigar room and pool bath. Privacy was achieved by adding a cabana on the north side with a full stone wall. The spa needed to be close to the master bedroom and have visibility of the flat screen television in the cabana. The spa is flush with the upper patio so not to block the view of the pool. A natural boulder stream connects the pool and spa. To soften the house planting is between the cabana and house. Decks and coping are Travertine. Pebblesheen color is Ocean Blue. Access to the cabana was located between the spa and the pool on the floating pad. Remote controlled fire features accent both ends of the boulders. Retaining walls were built behind the waterfall to bring the grade up so plantings looked more natural and waterfalls appeared to come out of the hillside. The cabana features were to create three zones. It does not matter the season or time of day, this space provides the family's perfect outside setting to enjoy each other. This courtyard is much more interesting now that the lawn is gone. A cameron stone path is widened to fit a small seating area. Along the way, the client enjoys the sound of the water feature which draws many birds. From the seating area, butterflies can be seen seasonally visiting Sedum 'Autumn Joy'. The client has adorned the space with collected pieces.

Our pool designers will ask you if you are looking for a geometric or freeform pool. A geometric pool can be a great fit for a modern décor, and a freeform pool can be combined with hardscape to create your own backyard oasis. Some homeowners are really looking for that WOW factor, and invest in a show-stopping infinity, or negative edge pool. Infinity pools are especially popular among beach cities, such as San Diego, since they can be especially dramatic when poised over a coastal view. A pool is a powerful outdoor focal point, and becomes an instant center of get-togethers and social activity. Many homeowners are interested in learning about different water features options that can really bring their pool to life. Water features such as water bowls, water spouts, fountains, waterfalls and water jets can all make wonderful additions to your new pool.
