Allen ConstructionThe goal for these clients was to build a new home with a transitional design that was large enough for their children and grandchildren to visit, but small enough to age in place comfortably with a budget they could afford on their retirement income. They wanted an open floor plan, with plenty of wall space for art and strong connections between indoor and outdoor spaces to maintain the original garden feeling of the lot. A unique combination of cultures is reflected in the home – the husband is from Haiti and the wife from Switzerland. The resulting traditional design aesthetic is an eclectic blend of Caribbean and Old World flair.

Signature Pools of TexasA 25 ton moss rock waterfall provides a dramatic backdrop for this natural beauty. Several unique features are found within this design. A reverse vanishing edge spa flows into the open pool. Another unique feature of the spa is that it is surrounded by the pool’s water on all sides. It is like a pool inside of a pool. A large rectangle stone ledge provides access from the deck to the spa. Located around the left side of the spa, three plastered and tiled bar stools provide seating along the ledge. A huge beach entrance was designed with several ideas in mind, small children at play, tanning, and cooling off area without getting into the deep water. This feature also creates a feeling of natural existence among the backdrop of landscape and moss rocks.
Sudbury Design Group60' contemporary lap pool set in woodland setting with ledge outcrops and ornamental bamboo plantings. Cascading stairs lead to a lower fire pit area and continue into the pool below. Stainless steel fountains and ornamental grasses frame the pool edge.

Boyce Design + BuildOur clients approached us to transform their urban backyard into an outdoor living space that would provide them with plenty of options for outdoor dining, entertaining, and soaking up the sun while complementing the modern architectural style of their Virginia Highlands home. Challenged with a small “in-town” lot and strict city zoning requirements, we maximized the space by creating a custom, sleek, geometric swimming pool and flush spa with decorative concrete coping, a large tanning ledge with loungers and a seating bench that runs the entire width of the pool. The raised beam features a dramatic wall of sheer descent waterfalls and adds a spectacular design element to this contemporary pool and backyard retreat.
