Le Mill, Mumbai

This stunning apartment in Mumbai has been styled with an immaculate eye and is in an old Art Deco building right on the sea front. Sleek, modern furniture has been interspersed with objects to intrigue; flowers in outsized coloured vases sit next to a silver tray on a coffee table, a stack of books published by Persephone have been placed next to an anglepoise lamp, a family photo sits under a glass dome. Lumitrix’s Yellow Butterfly by Holly Wilmeth hangs in the sitting room, and is accented by the large yellow cushions beneath it. But what we coveted most of all was the Rajasthani day bed upholstered in neutral, striped linens. The apartment houses a constantly evolving collection of contemporary Indian art, including a bold diptych by Saranath Banerjee, and a glass sculpture of a hammer by Sudarshan Shetty. Most notable of all is the extraordinary installation piece by Shilpa Gupta; a library cast entirely in metal comprised of books written anonymously or under pseudonym. It comes as no surprise that the apartment belongs to the founder of Le Mill, the most stylish lifestyle and fashion destination in town.
