The Japanese Screen

First impressions count and in the case of The Japanese Screen these words were never more true. Acting as an entry to the house by way of 3 steel and glass pivot doors, the room acts as a welcoming gallery beckoning you into the fold of the home. Polished concrete & black oxide floors, recycled tumbled bricks and hardwood timber grace the walls of this room. A striking six-fold blue screen by renowned Japanese artist Maio Matoko, which the Clients happened upon by chance, sits on a shrine like plinth against a wall of painted bricks and the curation of furniture that surrounds it harmonises with the folding form. A hand loomed rug in colours that echo the Screen graces the floor and begins the haven of textures that our Studio is renowned for creating. A curve to one of the corners in the rug is added to create softness and mirror the round form of the recessed entry mat. Curated with just 4 items of furniture this room is a celebration of colour and form.
