“I have worked with Matthew and his team at Coates design on two houses now and have enjoyed the process immensely . I felt as though I was part of the process on both projects and found Matthew to be very attentive and respectful to what my wife and I were looking for. He has an exceptional feel for what the site calls for and what the layout of the house should be to achieve it. The spaces are always full of light, open and airy, with a feeling of bringing the outdoors to the inside space which was our most important goal for each house. His attention to detail is great and his plans are thorough and well documented, minimizing any problems during construction. Having lived in our first house designed by him for 17 years to date and enjoying our second house for 5 years now, we can’t imagine living in a home designed by anyone else.”

“Our project is a new custom residence with grading and utilities on AG-zoned land in San Luis Obispo county. We interviewed several architects and Alison made a great impression from our very first meeting. She listened intently, took many notes and photos, and conveyed a professional yet no-nonsense demeanor that we liked immediately. Her references confirmed our initial impressions and reinforced our convictions that she was the right architect for our project. Most importantly, Alison was able to assimilate our vague descriptions and disorganized inspiration images into an inspired design for our dream home!
