Ground floor renovation to an original three bedroom red brick home. Construction included an additional three bedrooms, two bathrooms with a new style transforming the house into a modern functional family home. Materials included insulclad light weight render cladding, Hardies Stria cladding, Western Red cedar shiplap weatherboards, aluminium windows and doors, and colourbond roof and gutters.

The flooring, ceiling and doors were replaced in this undercover outdoor alfresco area; we alsoinstalled a fan and heating strips into the ceiling, as well as the wood ceiling feature. A nice open outdoor entertaining area also a built-in daybed for that sunday rest.

A multitude of environmentally sustainable concepts were considered and included the impacts on the environment by living on ecologically sensitive land, energy consumption, re-use of waste and actually living in and with the natural environment. For instance the builder found 14 brown tree snakes living in the roof of the original structure. The sustainable concepts identified were encompassed by a single word – simplicity, and this drove the entire design and building ethos. An elaborate and complex house with its associated automation and sophisticated electrical appliances was not on the agenda. Springbrook has a relatively extreme climate ranging from hot summer months to cool winter months. Shading, sunlight and the retention of heat would be critical. The main outdoor living area would need to maximize the use of shade in summer and benefit from direct sun in winter.

New Outdoor Entertaining Zone and rear extension

This outdoor entertaining area required some custom touches such as the prep bench table by the bbq and this extra large dining table - both with powdercoated frames and corian stone-look tops.
